White Mountains Run (at last!)

Hi folks,

I'm sorry for the delay in putting together this ride idea. It has been a very busy summer for me so far, but now I'm getting organized...

My thought is that I'd like to propose a ride either Saturday, July 20th or Sunday July 21st--depending on the response I get. So please post a quick response so I can see what date works best.

Secondly, I'd like to keep the ride open to ideas for now. We definitely want to hit the Kancamagus Highway (including the "notorious" Bear Notch cutoff). But take a look at the list below and respond to the options if you can (I'd like to gauge enthusiasm):
  • Canon Mt (Franconia Notch) Gondola ride for sightseeing, very nice, but not good for those afraid of heights!
  • Polly's Pancake Parlor. My favorite place for brunch, in Sugar Hill NH.
  • Lunch at The Balsams (I should just be kidding about this one--it guarantees a 500 mile day! )
  • Lunch at The Mount Washington Hotel
  • Drive up the Mount Washington Auto Road...want to check out those radiators and brakes? I'm up for it.
  • Take the Cog Railway up Mount Washington
  • Any other suggestions? We should have a lunch location and another diversion of a couple hours to make the ride complete.
Thanks, and I hope to see you in a couple weekends!

- Charlie

p.s. Picture is from last year's Balsam's Survival Ride

Unhappy Arrrgggghh! My calendar is full that weekend

But if you'd consider the following Saturday (July 27), Janet & I would love to caravan with the group. The 20/21 weekend is out because of family obligations.

This is also a bummer because we were driving up in that neck of the woods this past weekend (alas, not with the Boxster), and on our leisurely return home Sunday, took in some roads with GREAT potential for a Boxster tour. Charlie, if you'd like, email me and I can forward some suggestions for a route. BTW, Mt Washington Hotel would be an awesome lunch stop. And up in Whitefield, there's a gorgeous resort that just re-opened in May after substantial renovation -- the Mountain View Grand -- where we had a nice breakfast. The lunch menu is limited but the view more than makes up for it!

The Cog Railway is a unique experience. If it does wind up on the itinerary, I would strongly advise tossing a warm jacket in the trunk. When Janet & I took it early September several years ago, it was warm short-sleeve weather at the base, but at the summit... snowing, about 50 yds visibility, and COLD.

I have the feeling this has the makings of another memorable GBBG trip. Just wish I could make it.

John

Sunday 21 and Sunday 28 July are both out for me and Loosey too (Porsche club events). Saturday 27th would be good though.

Should we change to 7/27 then?

Rey/Juliette, could you make it then? What about anyone else who hasn't posted yet? I want to pick the date that works the best for most people!

7/27 works for me. The 21/22 don't due to a family get-together.

Talking Looking forward to a group ride!

Can't wait to join the group for another ride, it's been much too long since Rey and I have done a drive. Now hopefully we can get some good turnout.

What's happened to some of the members from last year?!

helllooooo.....any of you quiet ones out there?!
