brake dampener - Replace?

I'm changing the brakes on my 03 S. There are no dampers on the front, and one of the dampeners on the rear broke. I'm wondering if I really need them. Opinions?

Tony

I think they are installed on the S to reduce noise and vibration, it won't affect brake efficiency if you do not reinstall them. Base versions don't have them.

This is my understanding as well - they are just there to quiet the brakes. I have run without them on my 987 and 986.
