Boot 986 Decal

Hi all.
Having had an accident with the "Boxster" Boot Decal and gone naked for a while, I've just purchased a Black "986" Decal, I'm just wondering if anyone else has put a new stick on/self adhesive badge on their Porsche, my question is are they as simply as line up (carefully) and press on ? the back seems to be sticky but although I cant see it on the sticky tape I thought there would be a peel off backing ? can anyone confirm either if they have done it.
Thanks.
Steve.

I didn't do the "986" because I couldn't find it in chrome, but did this with a Porsche badge. I measured meticulously and laid out a "frame" with masking tape. I set the letters in place carefully, stepped back, had a look, repositioned, looked, etc, til I felt I had it perfect. Looks flawless!

Take your time.

BTW, not sure, but yours should have adhesive on the back of the digits. I actually very carefully, and precisely, cut the individual letters from the sheet and used the sheet as a template to keep the letters straight and properly aligned when applying. You only get one chance once the adhesive is exposed!

Here's the finished project, there's no tear off backing on the numbers, but the sticky clear window helps you position the numbers before sticking them to the boot. obviously change the numbers from 968 to986

Particlewave, where did you find this Porsche badge? I've been kicking around adding this in combination with the existing Boxster S script on my '02. I really like the way this looks on the 981 pictures I've seen, but I'm not sure that it will look quite the same.

This is the '07-'10 Cayenne rear badge. I think I bought it from suncoast, but can't remember for sure. I know that suncoast has them, though.

Thanks for the pointer. Did you have any issues putting it on, or will slow and steady (check and re-check) pretty much do it?

Slow and steady does it! Like I said above, the lettering comes already nicely laid out on its backing, with the nice gentle curve that you see in my pic, so I just used a sharp x-acto knife to carefully cut the letters out and used the remaining backing as a template. Made things pretty easy. Aside from removing the old badge and glue, the new badge only took about an hour to install.

Just dont remove the backing fom the letters until you are sure that the placement is correct! That adhesive is very strong! You can also use a wax pencil or washable marker to help with placement reference marks before final application.

Perfect! Thank you so much for the info. I'll be doing this as soon as I get around to it. My only concern now is how it will look with the "Boxster S" script. I really, really like the way it looks on the new cars, but it seems that the model script is much smaller than on my '02.

I would love to have one in the old PORSCHE text with the line under it as it appeared on 356s
