Pay for wired fm modulator installed?

I think i would rather just pay about $100 and have someone install it. They're only about $20-30 so $100 should cover everything, and then I have what I really want which is a headphone jack to my cdr210. Sound quality will be good enough, I am in a convertible with 2.5 singing behind me anyway

I read the $200+ chinese 7" touchscreen thread but then it's another $150 for a decent install kit bezel and wires and mess and potential problems for a lot of what i don't need. Don't need gps, phone does that. I'll never use cd. Cdr210 does radio. iPod or phone does mp3. Phone can even do HD radio or streaming radio and video. And with cdr210 I don't have to worry about someone cutting the top to steal the stereo. If cdr210 didn't work I would consider chinese touchscreen though but so far so good. Cdr210 does not have cd changer controls otherwise I'd hook a headphone jack to that, and the boxster stereo that does offer that is $200+ used

Does this make sense or am I missing something?

Wired...as in wired into the cars power? I've never looked into one. My Sony hu has auxiliary input that I use for my ipod.

You could buy one of those that plug into the cigarette lighter(already setup for 12v), hard wire it into power, and hide it under the bottom tray(lots of room under there...that's where my digital tv converter is going). Then just route the headphone jack to a good location. I'd just drill a small hole into the the top of the tray/compartment and route it into there. That way you could plug in your ipod or phone and just set it in the tray...everything well hidden.

I'm still on the fence about the DD Chinese unit as well. Great unit and price, but that bezel and cage are beyond outrageously priced.
That, and the whole theft issue. I'd be more worried about my top being cut or window broken than I would be about the stereo being stolen.

I didn't pay it, but was about $50 for parts (modulator and antenna adapters) for the CDR-23. If you have the 220, I believe you can go right in without the antenna adapter-I'd have gone that route if I could have.

There's two types of fm modulators: wireless and wired

Wireless is probably the one you're familiar with. They sell them at walmart and it's a weak fm transmitter that you tune in on your radio. Problem is they sound horrible because FCC won't allow them to be powerful

Wired plugs in through your fm antenna. Usually you unplug the antenna from the back of the stereo, plug this in, and then plug the antenna wire back to the wired fm modulator so you still get radio. This sounds as good as regular radio since its going thru the same cable the radio goes thru

I see...yeah, I haven't looked into the FM modulators since the "cd revolution" of the '90's.

Why not try the iP-BKRCD? It is wired, simple to install, and it will charge your phone as well. I used the one for the CDR-220 and couldn't be happier. Took all of 20 minutes if even that to install. As mentioned by particleweave, route the wire through the shelf and you have a nice clean install.

Well that stinks! I wonder why the CD Changer has to remain? I think I would almost go for a new head unit then. They can be had with bluetooth for under $200. Crutchfield includes everything you need. Something like these:

Same. If the cdr210 would play burnt CDs I'd be fine, but every brand ive tried it struggles to read, even when burnt at 1x

It's a Porsche, I can't put some cheap looking headunit in there. Either factory or good looking large touchscreen

The used cdr220s I've found have all been $200+. If they were cheaper, say $100, I would probably go that route

Did you finalize & close the disk? Older players have problems with CDs if you haven't properly closed the session.

I've been burning CDs for a very long time. My first was a 2x8x I bought for $220 in 1997

I am very familiar with how to burn CDs

I would assume so. The wiring harness should be the same, and if not, it shouldn't take too much to mod it.
