Nice, I been looking into changing my steering wheel to something like this, but instead with silver stitching and silver center mark

I'm not feeling the stitching around the airbag, but yes, that color is nice. Also a center line at the top of the steering wheel in the 12 o'clock position..

Hi Spyder - I've installed this 320mm with the F1 style gear shifting flaps (tiptronic). Pure comfort, thick grip and heavy.... I was very happy to literally send the little skinny Porsche steering wheel to my favourite trash as soon as I've finished installing this one believe me

Your custom steering wheels are extremely beautiful, keep up the amazing work mate!

The stitching around de airbag must be, because it is very danger without when you have a crash... the airbag can not come out or comes too late out...

Our´s work absoluteyl perfect... as you can see.

Oh, this interior colour seems like "savannah beige" , here also in custom made...

madmods 02-02-2012 01:46 AM

We are flying an old mate from Verona (Italy) down to Shanghai beach to finish the 986's full interior with a combination of black soft napa with red alcantara accents (w/ double & single RED stitchings and glossy guard red interior plastics... mix of techart and ferrari style copy!). That's why we went for the black wheel and not the Savanna.

As soon as the avg temp here reaches 22 degree (spring) we'll be able to crack on with this custom interior. Free (friendly) custom job but the napa and full porsche new carpets were not the cheapest unfortunately :/ Should be nice tho....

Oh me the first you have no idea! I may need your professional services at some stage for something else anyway so…. definitely keeping in touch.

I have to say tho.... my steeeeering wheel of choice will still remain my blade's one. I find it much easier and natural to deal with inertia at over 280km/hr with sticks ;)

I'm really surprised that so little response here. Have you all the oem steering wheel in your boxster?

sgt brad 02-02-2012 07:29 PM

have only had my box for a few months, but would eventually like a thicker rimmed wheel. what wheels are available for the 986 that keep the airbag? not interested in going the non-airbag momo/sparco route.

brad

doublepost, sorry!

Brad, these airbag-steeringwheels are all available in 320mm or 340mm diameter, those are standard models, no custom made or personalized.

Spyder - you obviously don't keep up with the official forum NEWS! Everybody already spent all they money on ims bearings at their independant pcar garage.

It is such a scare that you will almost get flamed if you do 1 (one) mod on your car without doing the, now famous, IMS retrofit ;)

sgt brad 02-03-2012 09:05 PM

lucky me. ims...DONE. now to other mods...

spyder, are the wheels available with a porsche crest and leather like the the earlier pics? i know that anything is possible, but i'm not looking to spend a fortune on just a steering wheel.

Brad, you can get the wheel exactely personalized what you wish for. In Germany it is not allowed to put the porsche crest on our wheels, but our own crest has same measurements like the oem... but ours is just stuck and it can easily exchanged.;)

There´s a lot of options that we offer and so we can realized every personal wishes from customers. to become an "economic" value, it is possible to cover only the airbag module with leather... but keep in mind... we use the porsche nappa leather, the wheels from the latest images are only covered with standard automotive leather... you will see the different between quality.

+1, my S steering wheel is not THAT bad to where I want to spend a small fortune on a nice suede wheel, they look nice, thats for sure!

They're not meant to only "look" nice actually, thats not the main idea behind changing a steering wheel! They are twice heavier and thicker, and they are smaller in diameter (bye bye school bus porsche wheel!). I bet you've never driven one of those for saying this ;) It's day and night buddy

Ask yourself how many minutes/hours you drive or race your car... now those should match the exact same time your hands are on your steering wheel. Lastly, picture yourself holding to a real "high quality & sporty" steering wheel all of that time ;)

Priceless imo

I would like a complete new steering wheel, I went to your website but I couldn't figure out how to order one. LOL!! :o
The wheel pictured, and feelyx in silver thread. Oh.. and its a '98 boxster, manual trans.

SpyderRS 02-17-2012 05:08 AM

No problem, you have pm!

We can realize all wishes about colurs, leather, stitching, but embroidering on airbag-module is the only, what is not possible and not allowed, because german TÜV sets safety rules for that.

sgt brad 02-17-2012 06:02 AM

now that i could work with. i have never had a wheel recovered. what did you have to do to get the much thicker rim? i'd spring for that on my 3 spoke wheel. i especially like the alcantara/suede. very nice.

brad

hotbarbeque 02-17-2012 06:38 AM

Brad - In the UK but I'm sure there are people in USA that will do this for you. IT was a part exchange deal for my old wheel so in total for the thicker rim and thumb grips, alcantara in black with red stitching cost me £150...

I will email and ask how he got the thicker rim and thumb grips done.

I love the wheel it feels great and goes well with colours on my car. Feels a lot easier to grip also when driving.
I'm guessing you might like this:
