cam sensor

Have p codes p1397 and p0336 on a 2002 boxster s, and for the life of me, I cannot locate the cam sensor on the engine. I've seen diagrams so I know in the general area where the sensor is supposed to be located but haven't had any luck finding it. Has anyone replaced one, and if so, do you have any guidance or pictures you might want to share? Code says it's on bank 2. Also, any info on replacing the speed sensor would also be greatly appreciated.
Joe

I should be doing the camshaft position sensors on a 2003S sometime very soon (sensor arrives today I think). My fault is being reported for bank 1 though which means it's on the backside of the engine under/around the air-oil separator.

Not sure if you've seen this diagram already but if your fault is in bank 2 then your sensor will be on the front of the engine on the driver's side. Not 100% sure on this but you might need to go through the access panel inside the cabin to get to it.

Hope this helps. If you happen to come across any other info or pictures please share it as well

Just wondering, but bank 1 is right side in that picture correct?

No I believe it's the opposite:

That diagram represents if you're standing at the front of the car looking back at the engine - the left side of the diagram is the passenger side of a US car and is bank 1 with cylinders 1 2 and 3. The right side of the engine would be bank 2 with cylinders 4 5 and 6.

Another way to look at it - If you're in the cabin of the car and remove the interior access panel behind the seats and look into the engine bay you'd be able to see the belt system as shown on the "front" of that engine diagram so bank 1 is behind the passenger seat in a US car and bank 2 is behind the driver's seat in a US car

Thanks, Sains0rs. Will try again this weekend. Will take pictures and post as well. Were you able to buy just one sensor or did you have to purchase both?

I bought just the one for about $150 from pelican parts (keep in mind I have a 2003):
http://www.pelicanparts.com/cgi-bin/smart/more_info.cgi?pn=996-606-106-03-M14&catalog_description=Camshaft%20Position%20Sensor%2 0%282%20per%20car%2C%20sold%20individually%29%2C%2 0Boxster%2FBoxster%20S%20%282003-04%29

I think for your 2002 you're going to need:
http://www.pelicanparts.com/cgi-bin/smart/more_info.cgi?pn=996-606-106-02-M14&catalog_description=Camshaft%20Position%20Sensor%2 0%282%20per%20car%2C%20sold%20individually%29%2C%2 0Boxster%2FBoxster%20S%20%281997-02%29%2C%20Each

I'm no expert so please double check all this before ordering ;D and any pictures would be great. I just received my sensor today so I might try to take some pics myself of a bank 1 sensor replacement. I also picked up the Bentley Boxster repair manual which should be arriving in the next few days, I'll check that for pics too.

I have the Bentley manual and there's not much in it, one picture and brief instructions on how to replace.
