Blankman I'd pass on replacing what you already have w/ another of same. Why? B/c you'll again face the same issues sooner rather than later. Furthermore, someone didn't remove theirs b/c they loved it so much and wanted to save it for posterity - LOL.

Of hand I do not recall specifically who makes an optic compatible unit but check the regular suspects lik Pioneer, JVC and Apline. That said, depening on the unit itself, you may be able to bypass the existing amp all together and wire the drivers directly to the h/u.

I suspect if you truly look at all the overpriced add on options you would like to have (Dension, Bluetooth, Nav), you'll quickly see how much better a decision it is to just scrap the exiting and go aftermarket. It's a tough pill to swallow up front but in the end it makes more sense.

I have noticed the clarity of the system isn't anything amazing, though I do have a airplay bose speaker in my home which has amazing clarity, but yes bose are know for there general love of bass! but I'm fine with it driver wise.

Ive had a look for fiber optic h/u but as yet not found any... Not asking you to search for me but do you recall any brands / models?
Looking for as little work as poss as I finally thought buy a nice car & I wouldn't have to mess around with the stereo etc but looks like the dream of that is slowly....make that fast slipping away!

No problem. I actually have two of these units one is working fine in the car and another from a member who replaced his system. I got a good price (for a backup) and am willing to pass it along.
There is no radio code for these units. The radio is enabled by the dealer once you install it.

It is funny that this thread just popped up again. I was given one of the Dension Gateway 500s earlier this week from a used car dealer friend who removed it from a car they were troubleshooting. I removed my CD changer and plug it in there in my '03 S and it seems to work just fine. I would like to leave the unit in the front storage area in place of the CD changer and run in the iPod cable.

Have most people installed these in the center console under the radio?
