Drilling straight back with extra-long bit

What happens if you drill straight back and only penetrate the relatively narrow space of the central outer shell, missing the inner metal tubes? The result is an opening both through the exhaust tips and at the rear outer casing of the muffler.

Good? Bad? Little or no difference?
