On an upward angle and a sharp punch works better than a drill.

+1 satisfied DIYer. Did this on my 03 base and it sounds a little louder than stock! Drilled 3/8th size holes. I'll go larger if I want more sound later on.

After reading many of the posts I used a few tips from several people and did my mod in probably 5 mins. I have a a 2000S with welded tips and was having problems getting the right angle and getting the drill bit to bite. I used a long screwdriver and used it as a punch and made an X shape and then I had a large lag bolt I ground down on my grinder ( didnt have a long 1/2 bit handy) and then used it to finish the holes.

Spent more time reading through all the posts than it took me to do it. If you are handy and have welded tips then there are several ways to make this work. This was what I used to knock it out tonight.

So does anyone has a recommended 1/2 or 3/8 drill bit that won’t break?

My 2001S has welded tips and I don’t have a grinder to fabricate a punch. Want to do this modification but hear of broken bits and frustration for some...

See DPhantom's post just above yours. A long flathead screwdriver serves as a good punch to locate the bit.

Thank you much, have the drill bit now from HDepot will give the screwdriver a try this weekend and get some noise? Drill bit was just sliding all over when I tried yesterday without...
