Hey, new to this forum. Nice place. 2002 Boxter S, 85k m. Did the Crios mod a little differently. Easily repairable if you don't like it, but it did the job. Took the 15mm hole as a guide, but rather made a long, thin rectangle that followed the tube around about 25mm by around 2mm wide (same basic opening area). A slit rather than a hole, right where the bend is starting. I was thinking less bottleneck...., maybe. It's coming out the path of least resistance a little better from the first hit. Like in the gentlemans video, you can hear the engine breathing better and free'er and free'er-gas off. I drive the car for sure, but i'm not a rever, I'm a let her warm up a bit guy.. It's beefier in idle and the above now, just a little bit, fatter. I hear the roadster sound a little, would like more, but, eh. The car runs on rails, man. I love the experience. The whole thing came about because i couldn't hear the motor at stoplights and bottomed out a few into 1st. Shi=*t. Thanks for all the posts here. I knew I had to do this and it helped after driving around new to me for around 3 weeks to get here. You can bend the inner pipe up with a standard but strong screw driver if you like for more. I did just a little. No droaning sound. Motor does run a little more fluidly, bein' a seat of the pants guy and sniffer/listener. P.S. IMS, rotors good......etc. Great forum. http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1487564920.jpg

Sorry for the thread necromancy.
Particlewave - have you got a guide as to what you did? I've tried to look at the things you wrote a few posts back but i'm unclear whether that was the final thing you did or whether the welding work you did patched up that description of the holes you made? Does what you did involve removing muffler and taking it apart or is it something you can do as the car sits/on ramps? |

considering doing this, but its not clear from the diagram/instructions. is it just a hole in the back of the exit pipe or does the hole need to be in the pipe behind that also? the diagram seems to look like it should go through 2 pipes essentially (each side) but no mention that i can see about that being the case.

ugh, just tried to take the tip off of mine and the bolt holding it on sheered off. got it off , now got to work out how to put a new bolt on when i dont have one welded to the tip any more

Another Crios convert...
2004 Boxster S I have read every Crios post there is on this and other forums (fora?) and have not seen one negative comment, so I decided to risk it... First I tried drilling, but the jumping bit was way too uncontrolled for me, however it did put a few scars in the pipe wall that helped with the next thing I tried which was poking it up the bum with a sharp stick... Well not exactly, it was a sharpened piece of bar that I found lying about. It's about 14mm across and square section and I made an asymmetric point to give it best chance of digging in... Anyway - it was remarkably easy - I didn't even have to hit it that hard - and now I have a nice square bypass hole in each of the outlet pipes. If you are thinking of doing this - go ahead! It's amazing. The car used to sound (to my ears) very tame - like a normal saloon (until the induction howl sets in), but now it sounds (again, to my ears) absolutely fabulous. It sounds like a sports car should but is not too loud. It's the Goldilocks of exhaust notes. And it didn't cost me a penny... To get the same effect on my motorcycle I had to spend £260, an now that's a bit too loud :( Crios - thank you, thank you, thank you... |
Hi, my exhaust tip is one single big oval, can the mod be done to this one aswell?
Cheers |
Yes if you look inside the tip you will see it has 2 sides.

The internal bypass sounds much better ;) :
