I wouldn't buy a Corvette personally but I do like them I also know a few Corvette owners and they just like a different style car than I do. They don't bash Porsche and don't bash their vettes. I like them and they like me. Stereotypes and perpetuated by imature posts such as a few of those set out in this thread. Take a hard look at yourself before you accuse others of being the instigator. If there were no Corvettes in the world and the wide variety of owners they present it would be a pretty boring place.

I completely agree... I'm surprised to see anyone actually defend the practice of stereotyping...

Well, for the sake of sparing ourselves major embarrassment, let's stay away from Corvettes at stop lights

Thanks for the advice 1JB, albeit patronizing. I took a good hard look at myself this morning and very much liked what I saw. And I’m not sure where you get accusations of instigator, from what was generally a good-natured back and forth on a few Porsche/Vette stereotypes.

But thanks to you and Adam we’re well on our way to compiling an anecdotal roster of non-gold chain wearing, wife-luvvin Vette owners. However if you read my post (3/13 21:16), my primary point was that the choice between similarly priced Porsche Boxsters and Vettes is a question of personal preference; which isn't a controversial or earthshattering statement and similar to your comment that: “If there were no Corvettes in the world and the wide variety of owners they present it would be a pretty boring place”.

As far as the practice of stereotyping, I don’t disagree that they’re a generally troublesome part of human nature. However, I’d say my stereotype of Corvette owners ranks pretty low on the list of unpleasant stereotypes out there. If voicing this particular stereotype was offensive to members of the Porsche-Vette detente, then I accept my reprimand, but if you’re going to question the demonstration of stereotypical behavior in another, then I suggest you follow your own advice and take a good hard look at yourself or perhaps reevaluate your choice of wording. If you've lived your 49-59 years free of stereotypical behavior then let me be the first to congratulate you and appoint you Mayor of Mayberry.

Lets unpuff our chests for a minute and calm down.

No need to escalate this any further.

Now, you may make me take off my gold chain and kick some serious ......

It appears to me that Boxster owners are actually gun totin' lunatics, although I haven't perused a Vette board to see what they typically pack. My guess would be Glock 17s that they turn sideways to shoot. And woe betide the poor fool that tells Grizzly or Dr. Kill they're driving a chick car...

If you guys remember when I wanted Corvette, I was using the Corvette forum a lot.

They didn't seem to like German cars at all. There was one thread about a guy's wife bashing her husband's 911 turbo because his battery dead and he couldn't open the trunk w/ a dead battery to fix it.

Hi,

The whole stereotype dribble from Liberals is annoying and totally misunderstood.

Stereotyping is ingrained upon us by eons of Evolution. It's part of our Threat Recognition. It's what tells us that we don't have to stick our hand in every Flame to know that it will burn us.

We are naturally hardwired to detect and record the differences in our surroundings and in people and this has served Mankind well through the millenia - Stereotyping is GOOD!

Where stereotyping is not so good is when we present it to do harm or hurt others.

No one should feel, or be made to feel, guilty because of this natural tendency to stereotype. But, neither should they use it to preconceive where another human being is coming from in a discussion. Remember, everyone you are stereotyping is doing the same thing to you...

Happy Motoring!... Jim'99

Yes Jim you are corect. We are, of course, talking about something else again.

It is kind of pathetic when someone has to dump on someone else based on the kind of car they have, ie, all Vette owners are gold chain wearing morons; all Boxster owners drive chick cars. etc.

I am simply asking that we be a bit better than that. After all, we drive Porshaaaaas.

Half of the people I meet on forums love my car and the other half hate it.

In real life, no one has ever insulted my car. Just compliments (except my sister...she saw it on an episode of the Sopranos. Definitely where I look for all my automotive needs)

In light of the stereotype discussions, here's an amusing profile on a notable fellow Boxster owner from the forum's Google-feed (which by the way is a nice feature, imnsho).

"Orser and Wilson are now head instructors at the Toronto Cricket Skating and Curling Club, a move he at first thought would be temporary – until discovering how much he enjoyed it."

Head instructors? Not sure quite how to take that one...
