75% OFF Clear Film? Group buy? any thoughts / suggestion / experiences?
Any one have any experiences with automotive clear film to protect their Porsches? I ask because I'm up here in the San Francisco area and a new company called Clearly Protected has an introductory offer of 75% off their normal $1600 fee for a group buy of 3 or more. Anyone interested?
I remember back in the day when the 3M film came out, at first it was cool but as time passed by it wasn't shiny and you could see where it was installed. Clearly Protected says their new material which just came out is 3X stronger, has a longer warranty (5 years?) and has a CLEAR COAT on top of it, making it just as shiny as a newly waxed car.
They were trying to explain to me that not only is their material better, but their installation techinique was superior to other companies in that they install the film AROUND the edges in most cases as opposed to the film being cut along the body line. I'm a bit hesitant since they are a new company, but the 1)price 2)materials and 3)their claimed installation techniques may be enough to put me over the edge... anyone want to get into a group buy with me?
Any other questions I should ask?
Please email me your experiences or if you want to get into a group buy with me at Pinoyfiend@Aol.com

A have StonGard on my car. There is a guy on eBay who sells the paint protection film kits for very cheap. I think my entire front-end kit was $200 shipped and a friend and I installed it ourselves.
It buffs out nicely with a PC and protects the car from minor chips. Well worth the investment, but don't try to install it yourself if you don't know what you're doing.

I did research on the materials and supposedly according to the specs it looks like this material by Clearly Protected really is the best.
I know 3M is supposed to be the best film out right now but here are the specs.
3M
8-9 pounds strength.
No clear coat
slight orange peel
4 year warranty
Clearly Protected
21 pounds strength
topped with a clear coat
no orange peel
LIFETIME warranty
This topped clear coat is what's selling me, the thing just looks so shiny, no buffing required!
I also inquired about their supposedly better installation tecnique.. they said the way they do it, it actually wraps around the edges, instead of the material being cut along the edge, that's why their installation takes 6-8 hours by a certified installer instead of 3-4.. ANYONE PLEASE PLEASE want to get in a group buy ?
IT'S 75% OFF!

I will inquire with them.. I'm just the kind of guy that does research before I buy.. consider me one of the CHEAPER people on the forums. The ones always looking to get a deal.. but a good deal where you really get more than you pay for. I don't know if they have the kits for a GT3.. I will inquire..give me a day or two..
$400 is the out the door price with 3 or more people.
I'm asking for input on experiences with the film particulary the 3M film which supposedly set the standard in the industry. I know BMW people buy this stuff like crazy especially those M owners.
If you have chips already in your front end, I'm guessing that you won't get more chips?
email me whatever questions you got so I can ask them all at once.. Thanks!

I had the 3M film on my original 2003 bumper. It only had 1 stone chip in it at the time I had the 3M installed. I'm not sure how well a bumper would look if it had a lot of stone chips under the clear bra. Plus it may not adhere very well.
I really liked the way the 3M protected. I payed $450 for the bumper, half-hood, partial fender and mirrors. $400 for the bumper only is not what I'd consider a group buy. $300 would be more like a group buy installed price. They'd be making at least $100 per bumper at that price. Retail for the cut-kit should be around $250, they probably get it at $200. Can you tell that I've done this research before????
I was also told that the GT3 bumper shape is one of the most difficult bumpers to install. You wouldnt want any inexperienced person doing the install.

got all the details
Basically your paying the cost for the materials, the material cost 2X as much as the 3m (THEY CLAIM), I saw it on their NSX, nice, it's really that shiny! You get the hood, bumper, headlights, mirrors, rear bumper strip. So the install is basically free. I checked around and the largest competitor ClearArmor uses the 3M stuff.
$400 The deadline for the group buy is next friday. So let me know! Thanks!

Ill pass, 400 for bumper only is pricey, My mirrors, hood, fenders and headlights take nearly the same beating as the bumper it doesnt do me any good to protect the bumper only to have everything else chiped.

If it's $400 for the bumper, hood, fenders, mirrors, and rear strip that is a really good deal! But how in the heck would I get it installed in Ohio?????
