No start.. no crank... no nothing

My 99 base started only in neutral. I moved it 10 feet because of a summer storm. After the bad storm, went to move it back, it started and ran real rough. I hit the gas, it made a bad sound and died. Now, it won't even try to start. Battery is 100% charged. But no start, no crank, nothing. Any ideas?

Look under the driver's seat for the alarm/immobilizer and look for wetness; if it is wet, that is your problem.

My no-start last week was my clutch switch. Bypass the clutch switch to eliminate that. I found a really good youtube video for troubleshooting no-start that I saved, because it did a great job of walking through no-start troubleshooting.

You may want to check where the positive cable from the battery attaches into a plug on the firewall

does immobilizer prevent start ? as in endless cranking ? or does it completely disable the starter circuit ??

i always thought it just disabled the car from actually starting , but fortunately have never had to find out.

You are absolutely right, it prevents starting but won't avoid cranking! My bad.

Thanks for the help so far. I watched the youtube video. None of that helped, unfortunately. I now think that it's the park/neutral sensor. Like I said, I had to resort to starting in neutral. Then nothing. I guess it finally failed. Any videos/tutorials on replacing it? I imagine I'll have to remove the shifter housing?

The starter failed me twice.

The starter failed me and I replaced it but never had what you described. 986 Boxster - a dead or failing starter motor can manifest as slow cranking, a clicking noise when trying to start, no response at all, intermittent issues, or a burning smell from the engine bay.

Your problem began after a major storm according to your initial post, you need to start looking at the immobilizer under the driver's seat, a major failure point when these cars get wet inside..............
