When replacing the AOS do you need to replace the Crankcase Breather Hose also?

I'm going to tackle replacing the AOS on my 2002 base 986.

Some tutorials mention replacing the Crankcase Breather Hose ( part # 99610714506 ) as part of the job. Does anyone know if this is required or not? It's not clear to me why the original one can't be reused, saving $90 on the job cost.

Thanks for any tips!

It's not required. I think the reason that it's recommended is that they sometimes crack and it's more convenient to replace while the AOS is out.

Ah ha, thanks. So I need to add "be very careful not to crack this during the job" to my list of things to worry about.

Upon further investigation it seems like Porsche modified the AOS which means the original Crankcase Breather Hose ( part # 99610714506 ) ends up being too short to reuse, hence the need to get the new one, which is a bit longer. Ugh.

You want to get a new one..! as the original will be all brittle and will crack just by looking at it..

PS: You don't need to remove the intake plenum, if you remove the cover behind the seat, with a bit of patience, you can plug it into the connector.

Great to know, thank you! Is it the part number I referenced above? I'm finding conflicting info...I have a 2002 986 base model.

Thanks again!

I am sorry but don't have the parts manual for the 986 platform, but I know that Sunset Parts lets you shop by P/N and description but some of our members have access to the PET manual for the 986.

PS: The reason I suggested replacing the hose was because when I replaced the AOS on my '07 987CS, it was completely brittle and cracked while trying to disconnect it, and knowing that your car was a bit older than an '07 the hose should be replaced at the same time, good luck!

Many thanks everyone! I ordered the part 99610714506 so at least I have it on hand if the other one breaks and/or is too short when I replace the AOS next weekend.
