What are my paths to a double DIN Carplay / Android Auto unit with this dash setup?

Boxster experts! I'd like to add a double DIN Carplay / Android Auto head unit but I'm wondering how I can do that with my current dash setup. I've included a picture and would happily take recommendations on what to remove / reposition to make this work...
Thanks in advance!

You are going to lose your cup holders. You can buy a cubby to replace your cd holder.

You'll need a new frame to mount your double-din head unit into. I used Metra brand's part number 99-9605B. It's a well-made kit that fits and looks like it belongs. I believe the kit also includes a storage cubby to replace the CD holder if you wish to do so.
You can see how I installed my double-din here - https://rx19jones.wixsite.com/projectboxster/projectboxster-3

Take the cup holder out and the CD holder, replace the CD holder with a cubby. Take a look at my thread for some pictures. I bought a Double DIN unit a year ago and I love it. The price was reasonable and it has been rock solid now for a year, way better than the CarPlay unit in my 2022 Honda. This unit matches the Porsche interior and really the only modification was to remove the cross bar between the cup holders and the OEM unit. Good luck! 7" IPS Auto Android HU with wireless CarPlay

This is super helpful, thanks so much! I plan to buy the same unit. Do I need to order a wiring harness along with the head unit?

You are welcome, I’m glad it’s helpful. As long as the OEM harness is there, you should be good to go.

The face lift models have different cupholder setup. t think it's interchangeable. But you need to replace the complete element.

Having spent more time with the "new to me" car, I'm second guessing if it's worth investing in a new head unit. The sound system is pretty terrible, I suspect I only have speakers in the dash? I don't think a new head unit is going to improve that. (:-) Maybe I'll just listen to the engine instead! (:-D

Everyone is different. I upgraded my front, door and rear speakers, the cost was not much and it sounds great. The rear speakers make a big difference IMHO.

In case anybody wants to find the head unit in this thread. The only no to it is in the rennlist thread that is linked in this thread, but that link didn’t work anymore for some reason. So, here is a good link. I’ve just ordered one myself. I think I’ll finally have wireless CarPlay, a volume knob (things I already have, but with a magic link for the wireless CarPlay) and a head unit that looks like it belongs.
