Vacuum pump mount broke off

Hi all,

Recently I realized that the single-bolt mount for the vacuum pump reservoir broke off and the reservoir has been freely rattling around within the engine compartment. I'm really not sure what to do here, as there isn't an alternate way to mount the reservoir besides that one contact point. See red circles in image below... reservoir and mounting point in the inner circle.

Does anyone have an insight into any way to keep the reservoir secured to some structure within the compartment? Zip tie? Where to? Any insight would be much appreciated!

You can zip tie it to either the mounting bracket or to the intake manifold, but if I were you, I would just remove the vacuum reservoir out of that place secure it somewhere near the SAI pump and run a vacuum hose from the Y connector to it, make it a lot easier to replace next time if it went bad.

If the single bolt that attaches to the plastic is broken, I'd expect that the vacuum reservoir isn't holding much of a vacuum anymore. Do you want me to send a vacuum reservoir and mount from one of the engines I've scrapped? Shipping to Denver would only be about $10.

Unfortunately for me, the actual metal bracket that the reservoir attaches to broke off. So a new reservoir + bolt wouldn't help.

Unless you have the bracket mount from a scrapped engine, that would work if I could get it installed

I looked at one that probably came from a 1997 engine and it's not quite like the parts catalog. It has the mount as an integrated part of the cast aluminum SAI Pump Hose Adapter/Distrubutor Housing. #4 in the parts diagram you posted.


#28 in the parts diagram is a steel piece that mounts the vacuum reservoir. Here it is at Pelican parts for ~$20.



I'm curious to see how your car is configured and exactly what is broken. If the reservoir holds a good vacuum, securing it to the engine with a zip-tie will work fine. Installing the proper mounting hardware will make it correct, but it's not in an easy spot to work on.

Yeah mine is identical to the first picture. Guess it is the integrated mount. Which makes this a very difficult problem to correctly rectify -- looks like zip ties are my only friend on this. Replacing the entire SAI Pump Hose Adapter/Distrubutor Housing is a job I just don't want to take on for this purpose. I'll DM you directly with any other used parts I'm seeking. Thanks much!
