Unhappy Right hand drive Boxster Japanese import help

I have a 2000 Boxster Japanese import which has the driver on the right hand side. My driver side (right) seatbelt has seized up and can no longer be used. I cannot drive the car without a seatbelt. I went to a local Porsche mechanic and he told me that I need to find one myself then he will install it. He does not want to be out any money if he gets the wrong one since it is a Japanese import. Does anyone have any information on who I can speak with or buy one so he can install it? Would the Japanese plugs be different than any other Boxster's? He is worried that the plugs that trigger the airbags would not be compatible. If anyone could please help me find what I need that would be grateful! It getting warm out and it would be a shame if I could not drive my car this summer because of a seatbelt. Thank you all!

First of all which Victoria are you in? I imagine there is a Victoria in almost every ex-British colony in the world.
I cannot definitively answer your question... but having worked on a 1978 Porsche 928, a 1986 Porsche 924S and a couple of 986 boxsters I get the impression that there is a certain continuity in the connectors they use. I don't see why they would change the connectors for Japan.
When you say "a local Porsche mechanic" I take it that you are not talking about the Porsche dealer, if not call or email the dealer. I find that the parts department of my local dealer is very friendly. I am on a first-name basis with them even though my average order comes to about $20.

Assuming that a used passenger side belt would fit, you may want to contact a recycler that specializes in Porsches..?
Or contact 78F350 (a fine forum member), most likely he has a spare passenger side seat belt unless you need a rare special color one..
