First of all which Victoria are you in? I imagine there is a Victoria in almost every ex-British colony in the world.
I cannot definitively answer your question... but having worked on a 1978 Porsche 928, a 1986 Porsche 924S and a couple of 986 boxsters I get the impression that there is a certain continuity in the connectors they use. I don't see why they would change the connectors for Japan.
When you say "a local Porsche mechanic" I take it that you are not talking about the Porsche dealer, if not call or email the dealer. I find that the parts department of my local dealer is very friendly. I am on a first-name basis with them even though my average order comes to about $20.
