Best Porsche Mag?

What do you guys read and what is the best Porsche based magazine out there? Panorama and Christophorous just seem so wine and cheese crowd to me. They like to talk about great wine, cigars, and cheese IMO instead of talking about the cars. Call me unrefined, but Excellence is the best Porsche focused mag I've read. They actually talk about the cars it seems. Anybody else have a view/opinion?

Hi,

For a dedicated Porsche Mag, I agree that Excellence is probably the one. But, the best articles I've read about Porsches were in Hemmings Sports and Exotic Car.

As a PCA Member, I get Panorama , but I've lapsed all my other car mag subscriptions except for Sports Car International and Hemmings Sports and Exotic Car. I think these are the most all-encompassing mags with a minimum of Ads and each will actually rate the cars objectively. If a car is a dog, they're not afaid to say so.

Car & Driver, Road and Track, etc. seem to want to avoid offending a manufacturer lest they not be given access to future models. Some of the comparos they have featured are just laughable. And the mag is like 75% advertisements.

In the past 3 issues of Hemmings Sports and Exotic Car, they have done feature articles on the Porsche 930 Turbo, the Porsche Continental, and a 356/Healey 100M comparo. They have also included side articles about the 928, 944, and 914, and that's just the last 3 issues.

Sports Car International has done numberous articles on Porsches of all kinds, including some famous racing Porsches.

Each of these is printed on very nice stock with excellent color plates of the cars. I highly recommend both...

Happy Motoring!... Jim'99

Excellence is awesome. I'm also VERY fond of GT Purely Porsche.

Magazines are expensive, particularly the European ones.
I don't like being forced into geting a 12 month subscription just
to avoid paying $6-$10 for a single issue.
and then you have throw the darn things out because before you
know it you've got a closet full of them.

Most articles have no meat, just a bunch of stats that are preceded
by some story unrelated to the car just to make some sort of analogy.
just skip it, take the car out and drive the wheels off it.
I like Road & Track(particularly the letters from readers) and
Purely Porsche but rarely buy either.

Excellence is excellent and the best pure Porsche mag IMO.

Winding Road is free on-line and has real talent like Karl Ludvigsen. Jan 07 issue has GT-3 RS and a Cayman comparo.

R&T is first rate all-around car mag AND they feature Peter Egan. It is available on-line at a greatly reduced rate.

9 Magazine is $5.00 an issue on-line. I have not bought it yet, but a sample looked good. I have enuf without it.

I lost it with Hemmings when the article about one car I knew well had several inaccurate statements and failed to acknowledge a source.

Christophorus is a company promo that came with my Box, and I would not buy it.

Panorama is a good club newsletter, but lacks the mods/hacks of the earlier days. Good photography and historical pieces.

i subscribe to excellence and think its a great magazine.

i also sometimes pick up some of the UK magazines, forgot what there called, purely porsche, 911 and porsche i think, not bad.

i prefer the american magazines, as i'm interested in the aftermarket products, and still weary about buying things from UK.

i think we need a purely boxster magazine. maybe our forum should create one on a quartly issue, that would be greatttt. probably not enough of us for it to be feasible.
