I don't know that you need to flush with water - I suppose if you wanted to make sure EVERY LITTLE BIT of the old coolant got out, you could, but you are draining from the lowest point on the car, so you should get most all of it. Anything that is left should be sufficiently diluted in the new coolant.

Also, original coolant in a 97 is likely yellow/green.
