Mercedes Benz gets Nailed, OUCH!
Looks like my service waiting room observations at my Porsche/Merc/Jag/Maserati/Lexus/Aaston dealer were not an aberration.
I was taken aback by the number of "well Mrs./Mr. Smith we found the problem with your Merc" conversations I heard going on.
Looks like some of the Chrysler is rubbing off on Daimler Chrysler.
and you thought Porsche was bad!!

most reliable sports cars: S2000

Absolutely pitiful results by Merc.
least reliable Large luxury: 7 series,
all of their convertibles SL, SLK and CLK,
their E class sedans and hot new lemon CLS
and their beleagured SUV yet again gets slammed.

well cheer her up, BMW still ranked lower overall! LOL
I'll be having thanksgiving dinner at a home where EVERYONE owns a Merc and have been doing so for more than 25 years. One family member had a bad experience with MB once and made a bold statement by purchasing a 7 series.
TAKE THAT!!
too bad it went back to BMW after less than a year with a threat of legal action! Looks like it wasn't just new model woes. That 7's still on the least reliable list.
Maybe its a German thing, those guys really hate being reminded of screw ups.
Because if Germans can't get engineering right, what else will they be known for?
Food? Fashion? Music? LOL
p.s.
Should I bring this Consumer Reports ranking up at dinner?

I always here of how unreliable Mercedes are but I don't know anyone who has had issues with them personally. My neighbor has had the same MB for 15+ years,no problems. Neighbors across the street have their small SUV,have had it for 5+ years,no problem.

oh my gosh..what a shame! i think i will remove it out of my sig...hehehehehe! i kinda know about it when i bought my Benz' but gotta take a risk, right perfectlap
remember when CR did a report on Yugo...the report was so bad, they pull their business out of USA and when Hyundai first came out, CR did the same thing but Hyundai company use it to improve and know they are slowly getting recognize out there..hopefully MB do something about it...I could see the Pre-Thanksgiving dinner with friends will be like this: See, i told you..you should have bought Acura or kept your Matrix..hehehehehe!

We had an '89 Benz that never had a problem in 160,000 miles. In '99 I bought an E320 and we had one problem after another after another. Nothing serious, just annoying little crap that you should definitely not have to deal with in a $50,000 car. To make matters worse, the service was absolutely abominable. Our service department treated us like they were doing us some huge favor every time it limped in. I actually reported my dealer to MBNA on one occasion because they were denying my wife a loaner car and then billing MBNA for the loaner as if they'd given us a rental. I finally got tired of the bulls**t and sold the car. I will never own another one after our experience with the E320. I really like the lines of the CLS500, but it's certainly not worth the hassle.

I think the pre - Chrysler Mercedes Benz are much better than the models that have come out since the merger.
I love my 98, 125k miles and still going strong !
( BTW - MB & Chrysler merged in 1998 )

We had a 2000 E320..
and thought it was going to be one of those cars we'd keep for 10 years. Unfortuneately, there were a number of problems: - Airconditioning--like a rite of spring, it did not work. we'd take it back they would claim work was done and it would work through the summer, then next spring..
Electronics--Oil sensors, gas level sensors brake sensors--you name it, they all went south
--Final straw was the car died in the driveway. My wife's comment was "my 1960 Falcon with rusted out floorboards never left me stuck but this $53K MB dies in the driveway and has to be flatbedded to the dealer".
The dealer kept it two weeks, replaced the cats, accused me of putting diesel fuel in it, never did say what they did but it was running fine when we got it back; BTW this was all under warranty even though we had 62K on it. We drove it up to the Mazda the dealer 2 days after we got it back and traded it on an RX8 and never looked back.
Too bad, it was a great road car; nice motor, great brakes , handling and comfort. If it weren't for those"little" quality problems...
