gear shift recenter

2001 Boxster S 6 speed transmission

I have been searching all over the forums trying to find a confirmed fix for a gear shift issue. The issue is the shifter doesn't return to center. It goes into each gear with no problem but doesn't spring back to center as it should once taken out of gear. I have read that the detent spring is likely the problem but haven't seen anyone report back that replacing the spring solves the issue. If anyone has changed this spring and solved a similar problem I would appreciate a response or if you had to do something else to solve the issue. Thanks to all

I actually found one of those things inside my center console when I removed it. I'm 99% sure Stuttgart put it there so it may be worth looking before you go buy one.

Works for 5 or 6 speed.
Disconnect your shift cables, install tool and align the shifter. Reconnect shifter cables.
