And, Here We Have It. The "End" Of The Boxster.

Or, at least, the end of the internal combustion engine powered Boxster / Cayman:

https://www.thedrive.com/news/44820/the-next-porsche-718-boxster-and-cayman-will-be-exclusively-electric?xid=emailshare

Can we now assume that the demise of the 911 series will be the next announcement made?

I'm excited to see what Porsche does. It seems like the whole EV market is full of boring looking SUV/sedans that can only go fast in one direction.

Ugh I think the used prices of internal combustion versions will stay strong.

Internal combustion "affordable" sports cars like the Boxster will demand a premium for a long time because of this in my opinion. I'm not against EV's, and maybe I'm a dinosaur, but no EV compares to a purring engine and a manual transmission. And installing speakers that play fake engine noises doesn't count.

Yup, that was the announced logical step. But they also announced, that the 911 will keep its iconic flat 6 Boxer engine as long as it will be legal in the major markets. So no worries for the 911.
And honestly...if I had to choose between a 4 cylinder Boxer and an e-motor...I would pick the e-motor.

Let's not forget that Porsche is working with a fuel manufacturer to design a sustainable clean burning bio fuel . If that is a success AND can be produced in large qty's and be reasonably priced that may be a way for the ICE to survive .

There is a segment of society that an electric vehicle is a good fit . Likewise there is a segment where a hybrid is a good fit. But I would argue that a larger segment of society an ICE is the only way to go .

All the technologies can coexist and as each gets better the buying public will determine which works best for them . As it should be .

Up here on the bald frozen tundra in the middle of Canada we are just coming out of a winter with some of the coldest temperatures and snow volume on record. All electric will never work up here for a year round vehicle. Just running the heater or defroster will cut your expected mileage by 3/4. Even as a commuter you will barely last a short trip before needing a charge. And forget about any highway use. You would need a charging station every 25 km.
