"Blowing out the carbs"

Not to date myself too much or anything, but back in the day we used to do this thing where we would rev the RPMs up as safely as possible to blow out / clean the carburetors.

I love my '99 Boxster. I love to look at it and I love to drive it. But I have no idea what's under the hood.

Should I be blowing out the carbs occasionally on this this car?
