Ignition Switch Replacement

Hi All, I replaced my ignition switch yesterday and now the key goes in easily but doesn't turn.

I replaced the ignition switch because the key sometimes wouldn't come out or go in. Also lights would stay on with key out of ignition etc..

You think the new switch I got is defective? I bought off of amazon should I buy from Audi dealer for better quality?

Thanks in advance

Did you purchase OEM?

Certain of your dash lights will remain on for ~10-15 minutes after the key is removed.

Did you jiggle the steering wheel? If the key was removed from the ignition when the wheels weren't set straight the key can be met with some resistance.

Report back!!

Yea, I tried moving steering wheel but no luck. I even put the old ignition switch back in and same issue. Can a weak battery cause the same symtoms? The dash doesn't light up only a red light on stereo blinks on and off.

With the electrical part removed, does the key turn?

Yes, I'm guessing your problem is the steering lock assembly.

Driving home fron the casino Saturday night (after the LIVE show!!) my wife said, "Why is the stereo blinking?". I watched it... three flashes.. two flashes... three flashes... then it stopped just as soon as it had started.

Hmmmmmmmm. Wonder if my ignition switch is going out?

May have to buy the part just in case. Thabnks for the heads-up!

Issue is resolved. I removed the ignition switch then pulled on steering wheel to unlock steering assembly and reinstalled switch. Works perfectly.
