Waiting to install this 3.8L into the Boxster

Ive been a long time member of this forum but ive been MIA for a while. Some may recall my posts some may not. I had a few posts here and there in the last year or two regarding my engine problems. Ill do a short synopsis of my story for any new members. I have a 2001 Boxster S 6-speed which was a special ordered in 2000 from Stuttgart. I eventually bought it off of my uncle in 2010. The stock 3.2 engine had every bolt on performance part available other than forced induction that I installed over my years of ownership. Fast forward to 2015 I had engine failure due to a D chunk crack in the cylinder wall at around 65,000KM so I had to scrap the engine. And around the same time I got a major concussion, so I had to park the car for 5 years in the garage with no engine as I very slowly tried to recover. Due to many post concussive symptoms still being very present in my day to day life I was in no rush to get the car back in working order.

During this long "break" I decided to take the opportunity to go big or go home when an option comes my way. So long story short this 996 fully built 3.8 engine is just waiting to be installed once the pandemic slows down.

Cant wait to be back on the road with new Boxster "3800S" now:P

Genuine RUF front bumper. Comes with the oem plastic air vents and shrouds. Everything has a purpose when RUF comes into play.

Viola, I am glad that you are finally getting better after the concussion, thanks for sharing the story.

In regards to the 986.. WOW :-)

That is a beautiful engine, may I suggest something else that may help you enjoy the new power on your car? How about an OS Giken LSD...?

I installed one of these on my 987S and it transformed the car all together, and that was with the 3.4 engine, can only dream how it would be with a properly built 3.8 :-)

Is your car equipped with the full RUF kit, or just the front aero bumper?

Welcome back and good on you for the recovery! It's a tough road for sure. We would love to hear much more about the 3.8; who built it etc. The engine looks great.

The interaction of orange and black will yield another 20hp due to better radiative thermodynamic properties.....

Been thinking about LSD. I may have to consider something like that to get the power down to the ground as best as possible.

Its not an aero bumper. The front bumper is RUF and I have RUF side skirts which are not installed yet and then I have a Rieger rear bumper skirt thats in transit from Germany. I didnt like RUF's rear bumper option. Eventually 18 inch RUF wheels and RUF side mirrors.

Mind if I ask who you are ordering the RUF wheels and bumper from? I want to assume it's RUF directly.

Been drooling over a set of their 18" wheels, but man, the exchange rate is killer!

I bought the Genuine RUF front bumper and RUF side skirts (not installed yet)
from a dealer on ebay a long time ago. He had a few of them at the time.

As for the wheels i’m just keeping and eye out for them.

First off, subscribed! Glad your health is getting better, and no doubt that the 3.8 installed will make you feel even better Can't wait to see your updates.

Excellent choice on the Rieger rear diffuser. The fitment is spot on, quality job man, fingers crossed you'll get the same experience.

Thanks for the positive energy!

I’m sure when the car is up and running like a top again then it will make me smile

Do you have the Rieger diffuser on yours? If so can you post a pic of it?

Thanks.

Another Canuck...excellent! Glad to hear you're back up to snuff.

Concussions can be a real tough thing to recover from.

That 3.8 will SCREAM.

You will definetly need some help with a 3.8L, I bought a Guard torque bias diff for my 3.6. It makes a big improvement just on public streets & it's maintanence free.
