If you rattle can something like this that would be why it would fail quickly.
If prepped and painted properly with good quality BC CC it should last just like a black car's paint would.

Rattle can on my end. Now me thinks next time I'm thinking they need a coat I'll just take them to the local body shop... and tell them when next they are painting a gloss black car to include the vents. Thanks for the idea.
On the other hand... the last time I touched up the look with a rattle can I masked off all around the vents and shot the vents installed.
