I'm digging the all black.

It’s going to chip and be very noticeable. Think long and hard about it or do professional paint and then PPF or similar film. Pictures 3/4 would get my vote.
Good luck
Shawn

Now that you mention it... you are correct. I painted black on my stock 986, non-S, the intake vents feeding the radiators. The chips are noticeable and I have, on occasion and when wanting to "clean it up a bit" have taken a black magic marker to those dots and chips. It's a pain in the arse.

I repainted them a few weeks, a month, ago and already they show signs of wear.

While the black looks great... be prepared for some routine maintenance.

I've had exactly the same experience.

If you rattle can something like this that would be why it would fail quickly.

If prepped and painted properly with good quality BC CC it should last just like a black car's paint would.

I like it...it's your car, go for it.

Rattle can on my end. Now me thinks next time I'm thinking they need a coat I'll just take them to the local body shop... and tell them when next they are painting a gloss black car to include the vents. Thanks for the idea.

On the other hand... the last time I touched up the look with a rattle can I masked off all around the vents and shot the vents installed.

Hmmm.

Yes, when I pull the bumper to clean out the debris from behind the radiators, I'll probably pull the vents and re-rattle-can them, followed by a few coats of rattle-can clear coat.

a good 2-part clear-coat will work wonders for this sort of thing, and you can get it in a rattle can. Spray Max makes a great clear coat in a can; you just puncture the little hardener capsule on the bottom, then you have a one-time-use epoxy clear coat!

My 151,000 mile car does not have perfect paint (although it is in remarkably good shape), especially the front bumper cover. That makes it easy to not sweat too much about how it looks. If the paint was as nice as the paint on the car in the pictures above, it would be a different matter.

By the way, I like the paint option in the last of the pictures above.

The 2K clear in a rattle can is pretty good stuff. The plain/regular rattle clear just doesn't have the hardener, which is what gives the paint longevity.

The 2K clear would work nicely, especially for a DIY. I've seen some impressive results with it.

It might not last quite as long as a good BC CC job, but for the cost and ease of application you can't go wrong.

Give 'er!
