Car Flooded

Driving home today ended up driving through some deep water inadvertently .Immobilizer was under water car made it home pulled the seat vacuumed the water opened the immobilizer box blew it dry blew the connectors dry .Car wont start. Can the
immobilizer go bad while driving ?

When you live in Houston and your driving home from work and work is 30 miles away and it dropped 5 inches in an hour **************** happens .

Yes. IIRC, the immobilizer is only interrogated at startup. Once the car is started and running it would continue to run. This would explain why your car continued to run but wouldn't start the next time (after flooding).

Sent you a PM from a fellow Houston resident. The rain was crazy. Unless you live here you don't understand how quickly the rain can accumulate on the street. My street went from wet to 18" deep in about 15 minutes today. I feel for you brother. Sent you some info on what I did when this happened to me.

Sorry for your situation, Gabe. As the previous poster suggested, you can try ECU Doctors. I would also suggest shopping around. Call your local dealer, as they're not as expensive as they you'd expect. Also there's a guy on here who may be able to repair yours or a fraction of the cost of either ECU or the dealer.

I was able to repair my own, but that wasn't without its trials and costs. But in the meantime I shopped around and was surprised how little a new one from the dealer cost.

You don't need holes in the floor for water to get in if the water is high. There are plenty of places where water can seep through. Door seals, wire holes pass-thrus, etc.

But holes do make the process a lot quicker, so I guess if you can get past the high water fast enough you may be spared.

Noted, thank you. I grew up in the PNW... now reside in the desert... and forgot just how quickly that water can add up. Good luck on the unit. Hopefully a good dry resolves the headache.

And then Paul's comment about the drain holes. Because I live in the desert I find that unecessary. But it was the quotation marks that caught my attention. The drain holes would work if the water was entering from above but... going through a large puddle would not be good.

....I preemptively installed the ECU Doctor waterproof case on my Boxster’s ECU.

I think it’s a worthwhile investment.

It was easy to install. Got it done in about an hour.

For best results, you really need to submerge the board in at least 90% isopropyl alcohol for a good 10-20 minutes, then remove and let dry.

Water can get into the relays on the board and regular drying won't get it out. The contacts inside will rust and corrode. Better to displace that water with alcohol that will evaporate quickly and not corrode or rust.

Sorry to hear that your car was flooded. I'm in Kingwood and it was crazy how fast the water flooded the streets. So many cars got flooded.

I installed the ecu waterproof case about 2 weeks ago just in case aswell. Hope your ecu dries up but if not get the ecu doctors to repair and get the waterproof case for the future.

In Houston, sure does. Son was going to school there and didn't hear that classes was cancelled. Trier to make it in to take his test and got flooded in a year old car. Expensive lesson.

Wow yesterday kingwood and other Houston areas got hit hard again with floods.

My house is dry so far and we are pretty high in elevation....but alot more rain in the forecast.
