718 Style Tail Lights (interest)

Just got mine yesterday and they look awesome on my black Boxster!
Fit and gaps/lines are pretty good, not quite OEM but close. One light has a little extra black sealant showing under the lens but not too noticeable. I'll adjust the fit a little when it's above freezing, and I cannot wait until the snow melts and I can get it out in the sun to really see them.

My only concern is I was unaware that they are from Taiwan. Not sure they'll last as long as originals. Also wires are spliced--why?

ROC > PRC

Spices should be fine if done correctly. Kind of looks like the "solder" spice connectors. Definitely want to see how they look on your Seal Gray.

Don't think those are solder sleeves, as the solder filled ones are clear so the melted solder is visible. Too much heat will cause the heat shrink to split - not enough won't melt the solder. My former employer invented heat shrink tubing and its many children products.

My guess... based on look of plug is pigtail was made too short and they extended. I'd give each wire a firm tug to ensure connected well. Then maybe a little heat to tighten up shrink tubing and add strain relief wraps of electrical tape, gaffer tape or zip tie bundle on both sides of the junction.

Speaking of plug BTW, I'd give that some love too and secure up a bit more w/ some black RTV sealant. If not using removable pin connectors as in an injection mold, that piece will be molded as one entire assembly with and the wires then cut to length at termination connector. Suspect they were initially. Then they realized overall pigtail too short. So they clipped all at plug to extend and then "hand molded" in the extensions back into original.

Looks sharp overall though and look forward to everyone reporting back LT results.

Got mine in tonight and got them installed in the dark in about 25 minutes of fumbling around with a small wrench and dropping two of the nuts and having to search for them in my junkie trunk.

Can't wait to see them in daylight but they look great from what I saw tonight. Makes the rear end look a lot more modern.

Didn't have a helper handy so I wasn't able to get any pics of them lit up but since it was night, I could see them light up and work properly from the reflection off of my other car parked behind it.

Very simple plug and play. I'm satisfied with the expenditure at this point.

I really appreciate your helpful tips and will use them. I'm disappointed in all the extra work needed to be done to ensure an EOM secure fit on new tail lights for the cost.

Yes, it is a ducktail spoiler made by forum member Joe Toth. Search and you will find a thread or 2. Very high quality, my paint shop was impressed, and easy to install. Highly recommended.

Installed 718 lights. They work fine, but a few shoddy details: too much wire, fit is not as close tolerance as OEM, no clip like OEM to clip excess wiring so wires are too lose, clip incorrectly labeled R was Left and L was Right, made in Taiwan...but from the outside they look nice and are functional. Wouldn't pay this price if I'd known about the shoddy details.

Rear fogs work, in principal. They don't light up as much as the factory fogs.

Funny tail light story....

I raced this past weekend and held off several cars behind me for most of Race #2 to finish ahead of them.

After the race, the driver immediately behind me said that he became "mesmerized with the LED tail lights and began to focus on the lights while thinking about them".

Then he realized that he need to pay attention to the racing and not my tail lights!
