Which gas to use?

My service manager recommended BP, Chevron, or Shell, for better performance from my Boxster. Something to do with additives that these companies add to the gas. BTW same recommendations from Audi service manager for my wife's new A4 Quattro!!! Anything to it?

There are some great threads about this topic on the forum. Have you done any searches? There are some very knowledgeable members on the forum that know the ins & outs regarding this industry and their practices.

In general, the take-away that I gained was:

1) Use 93 octane if available in your area
2) Get the freshest gas possible from the busiest stations
3) Use a high quality fuel cleaner maybe once a year with Techron

Most of the stations in this area began using a mixture that contains 10% ethanol about 5 months ago. There is one station near my work that does sell unblended gasoline - probably because it is in a rural county. So, I've avoided using the ethanol blend in my Boxster.

Until recently the unadulterated gas was cheaper than the blend. Now, the ethanol blend is 3-4 cents per gallon cheaper. Any opinions on whether I should continue to avoid ethanol? In my other cars, it seems that using ethanol results in lower gas mileage.

I can vouch for Chevron. Great gasoline.

I live in Ca so all i have is 91 octane, i buy Cheveron, 76 or Mobile...Mobile seems to be the best when it comes to power and consistancey...cost more usually. I never ever use arco. Its the worst gas in the world (not counting Thrifty gas).

I sometimes use Techron Feul system cleaner...it really helps that full tank last alittle longer but then its back to normal when its all burned up.

Hi,

Ethanol contains about 10% less energy/vol. than straight gasoline. This would account for the lowered MPG.

So far as it's compatibility, at these concentrations (10%) it won't cause any harm. Hope this helps...
