You know, in 11-plus-years I have been I've been a member here, I just found out there is classified section!
You have awesome cars. I am not interested in that particular car but I generally like your selection.
Thank you Husker.

My friend who just had me sell his C4S now wanted me to find a 987.2 Box S. We discussed colors and options but knew it could take a while to find a good one at a "reasonable" price. I got busy looking at my normal locations. We found a couple of 2012 S Black Editions, but one had slight damage repaired but the dealer in Orlando still wanted insane money and the other one had some minor issues and the dealer in SF wouldn't budge on his price (it was prob $2K high). Then I found this one:
A 2011 Box S in Austin, TX w/ 17K mi, a 6spd, heated / vented seats, and SC. It didn't have PASM, which he wanted, but he know that was going to be a tough option to find. I coached him on what to ask and what to look for. Had a PPI done and the guy doing the PPI was great. My friend flew down, bought it, and drove it back. Very nice car.
He mentioned he wanted to do a bunch of maint on it and asked me what I thought the dealer would want for everything. I figured $3-4K dollars. I made a pitch to do 90% of what he wanted done (there are a few items I couldn't or didn't want to do). With parts and labor, it would be around $1300. He was down for that, so I got the parts ordered - plugs, coils, engine filter, cabin filter, oil & filter, brake fluid, hood struts, and some DR Colorchip. He also wanted me to polish / detail it.
The car was very dusty but very clean underneath. The engine bay was very dusty but cleaned up w/o a lot of work. Here's the before and after:
The top had the usual issue of spilling over the top bow on both sides, so I did my normal fix for that issue. The offending elastic band had lost its ability to stretch. The top now closes inside the top bow like it's supposed to.
Now all that was left to do was the polish.
There were a lot of swirls in the paint and they ended up being quite deep. My normal swirl compound wasn't cutting it so I stepped up to a Turtle Wax rubbing compound. It's not a full force compound and was better at getting the deep swirls out. Then hit it with the swirl compound and then polish compound. Finished it with a nice coat of wax and it looked great. Unfortunately it was cloudy the day I return it to my friend so you don't get the full effect, but it had its shine back.
With the money I earned from a finder's fee, doing the maint, and polishing, I parlayed that into a new set of tires for Punkin. Discount Tires had a smokin Black Fri deal on a set of Yokohama Advan Apexes. Out the door it only cost me $68. Baby needs a new pair of shoes.
So don't watch the classifieds for this one, it's not for sale. But the Wheeler Dealer business is expanding to consignment sales and finding cars for clients. Covid pricing is still too wild for me at the moment.

Nice looking car! I look every night but as you mentioned, prices are stupid. These are still just cars and cars depreciate with age and use.
Not specifically looking for this but I've noticed a few 2007 Box S's for sale in the mid $20K range. I remember test driving a local, decent 2007 S 4 1/2 years ago that was for sale at local indy for $17.5K. Other than needing tires, it was in pretty nice shape. I didn't bite back then and ended up buying a 65k mile, 2003 996Cab with over $15K of documented maintenance (including LN IMS) for $19.2K from a long time neighbor.
I often wonder what the 911 would sell for today but of course, any decent replacement would be dumb money.

Yeah, it's a great time to sell but hurts if you want to replace or upgrade.
Our plan was to wait until Dec - Jan when convertible prices are at the bottom, but in today's mkt who knows if that will hold? This one came up, it checked his boxes so he decided to pull the trigger. It was a mkt correct price with very low mi and 1 owner. He still has a stack of ca$h left over from the C4S sale, so he's happy. Under normal conditions with any 987.2, you have to move quickly when you find what you like. That's more true now in this inflation generated mkt.

Husker, how much did your friend paid for the white 987.2? It was a nice looking car!

Low to mid $40s. Felt that was a good price considering the other cars we saw were a couple thousand higher and had 30-40K mi. It is very clean. Crazy times - that car would have been mid-$30s in early 2020. In late Feb '20, I had my eye on a nice '12 Blk Ed Box S w/ 30K mi in L.A. Was going to offer him $32K but held off b/c I figured the sports car mkt would go down the crapper with the onset of COVID. Boy was I wrong. Today the asking price on that car would be $45K.
And prices don't seem to be slowing down, even with winter almost here. Amazing.

Well I teased this one in my "History Repeating?" thread but have been holding off until I had it secured and the $$$ transferred (been chasing this one for 2.5 wks). That happened today.
1989 928 S4
56K mi
2 owner CA & NV car
5 speed
Been sitting for quite a while (yrs) and needs the ususal 928 maintenance. Having it shipped here. Will clean the gas tank and go from there. Seller claims it's in very nice cond. I plan to keep this one 2-3 yrs and enjoy it. The Mistress gave me a taste for 928s but I didn't get to fully enjoy her. Hope to do that with this one. Plus the Wheeler Dealer mkt is going to be shaky for at least 2 yrs as the mkt corrects itself - there will be a big down turn before things start getting better. So I'm going to sit it out and enjoy this S4. I might be paying a bit much for this one just before the big mkt slide down, but it's a 5 spd so it will always be valuable. And I think 928s are still under valued. There were only 1000 928s sold in the US in 1989. The std est is 25-30% are manuals. So how many of those 300 manuals are left? Reportedly the 89 S4 is the best of the S4 yrs.
You know what they say: it's better to have 8 in front than 6 in the rear.
Now I have to wait while the shipping gets arranged. Here are some pics.

Thanks guys. I'll start a thread on my adventures. Hopefully not as difficult as with The Mistress. Knowing what I learned before should make things a little less difficult, but you never know. That's what makes it fun. Really looking fwd to getting her running and putting on a few miles.
Have been in contact with BAT shipping. They should have more info / details tomorrow on when it will be delivered.

Cool! It's good to see you've found another. Once a 928 gets in a little corner of your brain, it never quite goes away. I saw my first one at Ed Carroll VW-Porsche in Ft Collins in 1978. The attorney neighbor bought one new in the early '80s. Scarface 1983, Risky Business in 1984.
A 928 has always been my ultimate Porsche. I'm still plugging away on my '84 928S in between all my Boxster projects. I'm honestly worried that once it's on the road I'll never drive anything else.
Keep us posted - you're my inspiration!
