				Details on Boxster Order Logistics

			Hey Guys,
For those of you who have ever ordered a Boxster, do you have any knowledge of the details behind what goes on once an order goes into the Porsche system? For example, if I put a Boxster on order last week, and was quoted an October build date, and then late November delivery date, does that seem reasonable given your experience? Does the vehicle get built at any time during October, and then what happens afterwards? -- does it take four weeks for the car to get over here? Or should I expect an even longer wait after that?

I realize nothing is set in stone, and there are several variables at play, but any additional color you could provide about this process would be much appreciated. I've done a little searching on the forum, and really couldn't find much on this subject.

Thanks!
Jason

Why not ask your sales rep at the dealership? He's there to answer any questions about your order.

From what I've learned on these forums, you should expect delivery about a month after the build date, and they should have an estimated build date a couple weeks in advance.

This sounds correct. Build in October. Ships in November. You'll see the car late November early December.

The only thing I would add is that you should keep on top of your salesperson, assuming he/she is cooperative and helpful. I ordered my '05 987S on March 19 and delivery took place July 22. The car was completed at end of May and sat on a dock in Europe for a month while later-built cars were being delivered. My dealership would not lift a finger to help move things forward and I had to track down the Porsche zone rep to get involved.

If you haven't chosen a dealer yet, find one (based on recommendations of others) that will actually work for the money they get paid and keep you fully updated on the car's progress. Don't bother to call the Porsche 800 number to try and check the status. These folks are only clerks who are instructed to route calls right back to the dealer.

Thanks guys, appreciate the feedback. While doing a little searching on the web, I found this on rennlist, which seems to be pretty helpful.

MFGCNF means manufacture confirmed = it is the code that Germany has received your order.
PLPROD = the order is now in the system and is waiting to be planned for production. (This is *after* MFGCNF.)
Next, it goes into production and shows this code = PRDPNT.
Then MFG, Into Paint Shop, CMPPRD (completed production), ONVESL, PDI (a port code), and PDIMON (on the way to dealer).

I was just sent an email by my sales rep that I'm MFGCNF....so not that far along, but its a start.

Longislander1, through my searching, I did come across a few of your threads concerning your order -- seemed like it could have certainly been smoother. At least you have your car now, and are I'm sure thoroughly enjoying it. I suppose the best thing I can do is stay on top of my sales rep, without becoming too much of a pest.

Full list of codes available here:

Sample orders with time spent in each status, here:

However, west coast Porsches are received and distributed through the Port of San Diego, so for a small retainer fee I'll keep an eye out for yours.

Sounds like you've got a good sales rep if he/she is sending you e-mails on the status. Hope the delivery goes smoothly for you.

When we ordered our 987 last year , it was built week of 10/14. The shipping time/ sequence went like this:

-shipped from Finland to a port in Germany to be loaded on another vessel

-Germany to Baltimore. Ground transportantion from Baltimore to OH.

Assuming the 10/15 date was accurate, it took 4 weeks to show up in Baltimore and then a couple of days to get to the dealer.

Not sure how they deliver to the west coast--rail?
