How to Properly Check Coolant Level?

As I store my 01S for the Winter, I double checked the oil and coolant level.

I noticed the coolant level is at the Min mark. I hadn't driven the car in a week.

My Bentley Manual is not clear on how to check the coolant level. Should it be at the MIN mark when cold? Should I add coolant to the MAX when cold or is the proper time to check the coolant after it's been driven?
