convertible top won't close (intermittent)

This intermittent problem Just started last week. Top goes down fine. Press button to raise top...nothing, no noise, no movement. Try turning the car off/on, put ignition in accessory position, still nothing. Wait 5 minutes, try again...and it goes up just fine. next day, top goes down/up perfectly. Day after, same problem again. Nothing on first try, then goes up fine 5 minutes later.
Suggestions? I'm starting to get paranoid about putting the top down, and I don't want my indy mechanic to spend several hours chasing an intermittent problem and then tell me it's working fine.

I had the same problem and decided it was the microswitch on the e-brake. I took the cover off of the e-brake so I could access the microswitch, sprayed some WD40 into it and the top has been working fine since.

Contact Cleaner may also work.I replaced mine but it is a tedious job. Best to combine with an upgrade to the shifter bushings.
