I've never seen an engine tag attached to a hose and not a hard part of the engine. No yard I ever heard of does that as they usually sell you a long block and keep all the other pieces and most people swap all their intake and electronics onto the supplied engine to make sure there are no compatibility issues with any sensor or the like.
I sourced a used engine for my 2003 986S from a scrapper and it came with most of the peripherals still attached. Those that were not present (starter motor, exhaust manifolds, alternator) or damaged (wiring harness) were drawn out points of contention. Ultimately resolved, with some prolonged hassle
