Zeintop open engine
I have a 2000 Porsche Boxster S, Out of curiosity does anyone know if you can run an exposed engine with a Zeintop? Much like high end sports cars where you can see the engine through the rear glass
Seems do able, just remove the engine cover and there you go but I don't know if that effects anything
Pros?
Cons?

Have you ever removed the cover and seen how dirty it is?would love to have all that oily dirty crap covering my seats and dash ...

At the least you would have to have a custom molded hi-temp clear (some kind of acrylic??) cover made to replace the standard cover. In addition to the dirt, etc, there is the problem of backdraft exhaust. This type of factory cover is in place in the Ferraris and McLarens my wife and I have driven at the track.

Just checked our photos and the Ferrari 348 actually has a full glass window between the engine and passenger compartments.

I've seen over the years these clear covers too but the OP was asking about running with no cover at all. Clear cover for me also a waste of time as after a week it will just look ****************ty anyway.

there were clear covers available for the cayman, and cayman covers fit right on to a 986. i've a ztop on my car and can take a pic this weekend (no clear cover but do have the engine open currently ...).

With no cover it would be very noisy, hot, and dusty. I did a test run with no cover behind the seats once and that's how it was.

It would be irresponsible to drive a car with the engine open to the interior due to the risk of unhealthy vapors, heat, noise, and most importantly, fire. Thus, a clear cover would be the best potential solution.

ok, here is a bad pic of an exposed engine w z-top in a poorly lit garage through some darkened glass ...
for a split second a few years ago i thought about going to a clear cover, but either lots of $$$ of gotta fabticate your own. and, as others have noted, it would get crudded-up with all kinds of unfortunate debris in short order. not to mention the need to incessently clean the engine.

That glass cover for the Cayman seems like the best option if you want to see the engine bay through the rear window. Are we sure that that would fit a 986 with out any modification?

well, i know that the standard cayman engine cover fits on a 986 (i have one on at the moment) so i presume that the cover shown would fit. note that there are two types transparent covers for the cayman as the cayman has a secondary trim cover over the engine area and the other type that is commercially available mounts to this and not to the engine bay.
