Nah. Ragging on Californians and Texans is big business in Colorado for natives (not that I was trying to hate on Californians - just paraphrasing "Sideways"). Although the Texan thing has tapered off a bit since the oil days of the 70's and 80's.
You know how it is - Californians sell their crappy house and find they can buy some HUGE house on the side of a mountain in Colorado. They buy an SUV (because everyone has a 4x4 in Colorado) and proceed to drive it off the road when the first snow storm comes up. They like the lifestyle (laid back) but then get pissed because we're, well, laid back. They like the high country, but don't know enough to fear and respect it. But on the plus side we have much nicer malls than we used to....

I drove mine last winter without incident but I only like to keep cars for two years then Im bored. Its my opinion you dont need a hard top just because it snows. I dont have one and its not like it was cold inside the car or anything. I also believe the car does so well because its mid-engine. Just keep it clean and you shouldnt have any problems. My whole life I have kept my cars nice for the next guy, not anymore. I just keep checking my friends lot for my next ride..... www.thomasclassics.com he has some nice stuff there, been saving for a Viper for 5 years by the way and Im half way there.

I travel via plane M-F so my airport taxi is a 98 Explorer;
Having lived in Chicago for some 24 years, I would not want the salt and slush on my car during the winter; is pretty hard to wash at the end of the day/week/month when the chill factor is unBEARable! How much would that bug you? I couldn't deal with that at all

Well, I understand its tough to wash in the winter but I did it all year. I just went and sprayed it off at the quarter wash. Dont get me wrong it was cold but my car was clean all winter. Like I said my cars time is limited with me but I still take care of it. The Boxster at his lot is perfect with low miles, you have to understand his rep is nationwide and the cars are perfect.

Since my Boxster is my fun, around town car and my track car, I have another for freeway driving and the 'family substitute' car, in case my wife has her car and I have to tote our daughter around, or guests from out of town, or clients, etc.
That's not mine shown in the pic, but mine's just like it except for the aero kit, and it's not my house.

Winter Car, Summer Car, Project Car... plus some other cars in the background, of which I have no digital photos. Oh yeah and one Explorer Limited for transporting the dogs.
God, I love the 928. I've wanted one since I was a kid. Never pulled the trigger though. An old friend has a black/black 928 S-4. One time a bunch of us had like a scavenger hunt for a huge dinner party. We split up into teams and picked a dinner item out of a hat. Then we had to go to the place that was famous for that item and bring it back. My buddy and I drove to Maine to retrieve the lobsters. We took the S-4. What a great road car. Two other guys had to go to Idaho for potatos. Talk about lousy luck..flying back from Idaho with 50 lbs of friggin' potatos.

Don't buy another car
I bought the continental snow tires and threw them on my 18" boxster S wheels and ran all winter here in chi town no problem! better than my old cherokee and blazer! I also have a soft top and that wasn't in issue, car came with a heater  the car wasn't terrible with the high perf tires but I wanted more security so I say get the tires......plus the money saved will eventually go to 19" classics in my case.....invest in the car you love.....don't invest in something to get you from A to B......you bought the box to drive it.....

Winter is not much of a problem in Atlanta, so the winter beaters are the same as the summer beaters: BMW E39 with 100k miles and the Cayman S.
