Can I drive with passenger seat removed?

Hey all, my poor 987 is currently recovering from a bit of flooding under the passenger seat, caused by a clogged drain. I decided to remove the passenger seat so I could pull up the carpet and get more airflow to the underside. Prior to unplugging the seat's wiring harness, I disconnected the battery, as I understand that failing to do so will cause the airbag warning light to go on.
My question is, can I reconnect the battery while the seat is still out, and drive the car, or will this cause the airbag light to go on? I suspect it will, but I figure there's a chance it senses the state of the connector when the battery is connected.
Cheers,
Jon

Leave the carpet out and put your seat back in for now. It's only 4 bolts.
