				Got This Today From Porsche

To my surprise this came in the mail today from Porsche North America in a gray heavy duty cardboard box. This hardcover book is very well done with lots of slick color pictures, statistics and rah rah commercialism for the new 718 Boxster. The accompanying letter asks "What are you waiting for?" Well, let's see, about $90K the way I'd buy one and I don't see that happening anytime soon since I'm retired on a fixed income, but maybe the book will become a collectible someday. Anybody else get one? |

				718 fail?

I'm wondering if this is a sign that sales of the 718 are not all that good.
I keep a eye on used manual Boxsters in my State (in Australia), as I'd like to maybe get a 981 at some point. What I've noticed is that the number of used manual 981s has been dropping to the point where there now NONE available. There are also virtually no late 987 manual Boxsters available either. The only 987.2 for sale, which is a Spyder.

There are a small number of PDK 2.7 981s available, but good luck if you want to get an S or a GTS.

Is it the same in the US?

@pominoz I honestly think the manual take rate was small to begin with, any 981 I've seen parked around town has been pdk. As for 718 sales, idk if they're good or bad but I can Guarantee you Porsche has been planning on giving this car a major marketing push from the start in preparation of 4 cylinder backlash. They knew the styling had to be almost perfect, the marketing material strong, and that maybe a Le Mans victory with a 4 cylinder in the past year would help as well. All of this was prepared well ahead of sales figures and it's simply the company giving an extra push where it's expected to be valuable.

Maybe, but I've noticed a definite decline in the availability of used 981 Boxsters, over here at least. You'd usually expect an increase of the old model for sale when a new model comes out. The opposite seems to be the case.

+1
I moved to the US almost 9 years ago.
This is the first time I see a Porsche commercial on TV.
Porsche a definetly being aggressive with this one.

I was at the dealer a cpl wks ago and asked if I'd missed the 718 intro (there was a 718 on the showroom floor). The sales mgr said no, Porsche wants them to do the intro in Sep and be part of some sort of 'event'. Our intro is Sep 24 and includes 2 driving sessions as well as a golf outing (intro is at a golf course). That date happens to be a Neb football away game Sat that kicks off at night, so other dealers may have their intro some other day earlier in the mo. No one would show up on a home game Sat and it might be hard to have an 'event' during the wk.
I've seen the Boxster sunset commercial many times on many stations. Porsche is putting a lot of push into the 718.

The "event" in Albuquerque is this weekend, and I've received a nice invitation but not a book. Just some horse doovers at the dealership.
It's too early to say how sales are going, but VW needs all the Porsche sales it can muster to fund dieselgate.

I'm a retiree as well and likely don't impress with my $11K 2001 and in any event I think I like funky as opposed to super duper Mark Webber endorsed. I'd have a 356 before a 718 if they were affordable. I do want Sirius and NAV, but that's only $1200 or so.

Hey this may be a collectible Porsche memorabilia someday and it may be more valuable than my '99 986. Haven't checked 986 prices lately but it may be more valuable now.

The GTS one was nicer. This one is very similar to the book they sent for the Macan release.

Fantastic! I'm really thinking about buying one of these cars but I'm not too sure where to go with it though, what are the common issues with the car (if any) or is there a part that needs regular maintinace? went Servicing Stop with my car the other day and spoke to them and they gave me abit more of an insight on these cars (they know me, been using them for years) but need abit more help.

Use the "Search" feature and you'll find out all you want to know and won't be hijacking an unrelated post.
