New owner hello
Hi all,
I just bought a 2001 Boxster S and thought I should introduce myself as I've already benefited from the collective wisdom of the forum here.
I'm in Seattle, Washington. Have owned several BMWs over the years, this is my second Porsche. First was an '82 911 SC that I wish I hadn't sold.
That said, my new (to me) car has 106k and looks to be well maintained and is a great driver. I just returned from a weekend road trip and the car was fantastic. It will likely need a clutch soon as the PPI called out that the stiff clutch pedal points to a failing pressure plate. I'll cave and do the IMS bearing when I do the clutch, probably more for peace of mind than anything else.
Thanks for all the great info here and thanks in advance for future help on questions I'm sure I will have.
-Roger

Welcome, Roger. The 986 is a great driver's car, and you'll be sure to have many miles ahead.

Welcome! And from Seattle? If rumours are true - will you ever get to put the top down?

Haha...rumors are slightly true. I've seen lightning, hail, rain, and sun in a span of 3 hrs before. Just gotta be careful driving top down if you're under an overcast

When I picked up my '03, sight unseen (Ebay) Boxster with 80k in '09, I commented that the clutch was stiff. Seller's comment was that that was the sign it needed a new clutch. Seven years and 15k miles later (I know, it's a garage queen only taken out on sunny days and I'm in Seattle too) clutch is still working fine and still stiff, but you get used to it right away. So unless you feel you need to get the IMS replaced now, I'd wait until the clutch actually starts to go out. JHMO. And beautiful car by the way.

Thanks for all the welcomes folks. Really enjoying the car so far and the top is down 99% of the time - even in Seattle!
My going in position with the clutch was to drive it until an actual issue with slippage started to show itself. After a 500 mile-ish weekend though I'll admit that stiff clutch pedal was not fun. I'll most likely be getting it done soon.
That said - I ran across a post or two where owners had experienced a broken clutch booster spring that was causing/contributing to the stiff pedal. I'm not sure I buy that could be the root of it but am curious if others here have any experience with clutch booster spring issues?
