Alternative bike rack to Bird Automotive?

Hi Boxsters,
Anyone have or know of a good bike rack besides the Bird Automotive rack for a '99 Boxster basic? I just called them to order one but they are out of stock until July 15th and I'm on vacation the week of the 4th so I'd like to find one asap.
Thanks!

I happen to have one for sale! Send me a PM if you'd like to discuss.

Other than a Porsche Roof Transport System (RTS), the Bird rack is the only one I know of for the 986. Looks like Mike has you covered!

Any other racks anyone know of? I've decided not to buy the used one from Mike.

It's pretty much the Bird rack or the Porsche RTS. If you can find a RTS they run about $300 used plus the bike holder. You could also look into a trailer hitch from Willwood (about $400 plus the bike holder), but I am not sure if he is still selling them. I did see a mention of someone using a generic/universal trunk rack with nylon straps, but then you have to be concerned about paint damage.

I know technically I can do the trailer hitch but it feels too sacrilegious!

Then you've exhausted all options. Those are your choices. Or alternatively sell the boxster and buy a jeep. You've got two decent options that enables your tiny two seats roadster to haul bikes...what more could you hope for?

I would jump on Fat Mike's offer quick if you hope to use ASAP.
I had the Bird, I think I was the first Boxster guinea pig for it, the owner of the comnpany installed it himself on my car right on the spot. You just have to get used to that the built in "suspension" of that style of rack but it's probably the most secure anchoring since it's to the undercarriage and not the bodywork/bumper. Unfortunately someone plowed into the back of it when I was away from the car in a parking lot.
