Boxster Aero Kit....W.I.P.

I've had the 986 for three weeks and the splitter for my aero package is complete. Next up is a redesign and tooling of my 987 side skirts. Then start on the back end with a diffuser. At some point I'm going to hang some parachutes off the side of the car and call them intake scoops. I'm also thinking about doing something for the rear spoiler, it seems like it needs to grow a bit more than what is there currently. "Go big or go home"....LOL.

Here is a picture of my 987 side skirts I have to retool to fit properly.

To each his own, I suppose...

Joe toth 06-28-2016 04:35 PM

Decided to forgo the side skirts for a while and work on the back of the car as the next piece....sort of a front to rear balance.
Working on a duck tail for the Boxster. Here are a few pictures of what I have come up with thus far. Input as to size and shape would be welcome.
Thankshttp://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1467160415.jpg

In my opinion the ducktail should be half the height you have in the pics. I will speak for myself I have wanted a ducktail to mount onto the OEM spoiler but I want something smaller so it looks good in the down or up position.

Joe toth 06-28-2016 04:52 PM

Vertically it is 3-1/4" and horizontal is 6". Are you thinking shorten both dimensions? It is/will mount as per the factory part.
Thank you for the input.

DWBOX2000 06-28-2016 07:07 PM

I think the duck is perfect. Where did you get that?

Joe toth 06-28-2016 07:20 PM

I am in the process of making the mold and producing them.

thstone 06-28-2016 07:29 PM

First, kudos for doing this! Great job.

I like them both. The duck tail is the right size IMHO.

Nine8Six 06-28-2016 11:57 PM

Its actually quite nice what you did. When you look at it from the side those are certainly the best flow curves I've seen for a Boxster spoiler. Nice work/skills man

Wish I'd be at least half-able to do these sort of things, not all that easy to do

Van914 06-29-2016 02:12 AM

Looks great as it is!

Deadeye 06-29-2016 08:56 AM

Are you making front splitters and are they for sale?

Joe toth 06-29-2016 09:32 AM

deadeye, yes sir i am making the splitters and are for sale. First pictures in the thread is my splitter I did white on my car but they are produced in black gel coat/fiberglass. Take a look at my facebook page "Joe Toth Composites" for more pictures and some of the other stuff I do.

Thank you for the input.

Can you snap a few different angle pics with the spoiler raised ? To my eye you did very good with the shape but it looks too tall to me..........maybe I'm wrong .

Joe toth 06-29-2016 04:47 PM

I will take some pictures tomorrow and post. There are a couple of people who like it as is but I am leaning towards cutting it down. It didn't look as big on the bench while I was forming it. More than likely I will end up with two different sizes and two molds.

Joe toth 06-30-2016 10:19 AM

Here are a few more pictures of the duck tail raised....hope this helps.http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1467310683.jpg

+1 Count me in for one.

Joe toth 06-30-2016 11:17 AM

Spoiler.....you talking front or rear duck tail. The front spoiler/splitter is ready to go now.

DWBOX2000 06-30-2016 12:14 PM

Duck, put me down for one too when ready.

Yellow986S 06-30-2016 12:23 PM

I love the rear ducktail. However, I would appreciate it if you could make a second mold that is about half the size of the current ducktail in height and have the sides blend with it.

Should look perfect and then you can count me in to buy one.

Could you also do it in carbon fiber or carbon fiber overlay?

Clk 06-30-2016 03:53 PM

The ducktail looks amazing but will you be making one to fit the 03-04 boxster models?

Joe toth 06-30-2016 07:22 PM

I am already working on a smaller version, hopefully will have pictures by early next week.
yellow986s......not sure what you mean by "having the sides blend with it"

As soon as the molds are complete for these two I will be doing the 03 as well.

rfuerst911sc 07-01-2016 03:01 AM

Joe thanks for the additional pics of the duck in the up position but I will stick with my opinion that for my taste it is too tall. But you can put me down for a shorter version. I think you have done a fantastic job with the shape and overall appearance but that shape and curve blending will be different when it is shorter.
To my taste the taller version would be great for a track car but for a street car looks too " ricer " . No offense to those that like it . If you produce both sizes the free market will choose which version is a better seller. How sturdy is the install ? Would you recommend the end user to use automotive adhesive in addition to the OEM rivets/screws ?
One last thought, not to be a safety nazi but does the tall ducktail impede the vision to the upper brake light when in the raised position ? In this litigous society we live in don't put yourself in a position to be sued because your ducktail blocked a brake light. I am looking forward to seeing pics of the shorter version.

PM sent for details and to place an order

alm001 07-01-2016 08:50 AM

I'd like to see it extended without the original front and rear covers now. Just the pistons. I think I like it.

Unfortunately I can't do that. With this particular design it's made to replace the factory spoiler. Nothing to attach the duck tail to if the cover is gone.

vheilman 07-04-2016 04:05 AM

I like the shape and corners, but it's too extreme for me. I'd like something about 1/3 of that height, when the tail is down. Please let me know if you make these for sale. Following...

Joe toth 07-04-2016 07:39 AM

Here are a few pictures for the downsized duck tail. I made this pattern to a higher standard, closer to being ready for converting to mold stage. This one compared to my first attempt is way more subtle....I think I like it.

I will post more pictures on my Facebook page.

Would appreciate feedback before I make the mold.

Absolutely beautiful. Well done x1,000,000

achillies 07-04-2016 08:59 AM

Perfect!!!!

rfuerst911sc 07-04-2016 09:48 AM

Now we're talking !!! That looks real nice and is scaled much better. So I'll be the first to say how about a group buy for forum members ? You state a price for 10 people to purchase............save a little more if 15 sign up.......save a little more if 20 sign up you get the idea. Helps the buyers on end cost and helps you meet whatever min buy makes it attractive for you. Are these fiberglass ? Any wood core ? You using OEM fasteners ? Have you had your test mule up to 100 + speed ? Just curious if any ill side affects ? I am REALLY looking forward to getting one of these for my Boxster GT3 wanna be !!! :D

rexcramer 07-04-2016 10:06 AM

Well done sir.

mack73 07-04-2016 01:07 PM

The only issue I see is that from the back the top curve doesn't follow the bumper line. It needs to have a slight curve to it. It appears almost straight (when the edges are turned up).

See the green line in the attached photo

NJBoxster2000 07-04-2016 01:36 PM

I LOVE IT!!!! If you are planning to sell these, sign me up please.

Joe toth 07-04-2016 01:40 PM

mack73..... sorry I'm not understanding what you mean. "follow the bumper line" and "a slight curve".
Can you please try to explain to me again call me if it's easier 604-329-9391
I do want to get this as right as possible.
Thanks, Joe

Amazing work! I stumbled upon some of your previous aero work on other Porsches on Facebook, and they all look stunning. Do you have any plans on fabricating custom side vent pieces for the 986? I'd be very interested in that!

Intake scoops are next on the drawing board.
Thank you for the kind words about my others bits.

steved0x 07-04-2016 02:49 PM

I don't even like ducktails but I sure like the small one, and I definitely am.interested in the side scoops. I agree with the green line comment above, if it followed that curve I think it would look even better.

Van914 07-04-2016 03:49 PM

Sign me up when available.
Looks Fantastic!

cbadbox 07-04-2016 06:49 PM

I like it!!! Nice work and yes I am also interested.
