987 seats in a 986
I've got a buddy who's asked if he can put 987 Cayman seats in his 2001 986. the "options" on both are the same: manual rails, electric back, heated. Are they plug-n-play?
His reason for the change is that the heating element in his driver side is gone. He's tested the switches, and they are good, so he needs a seat with a good heating element.
I thought that Cayman seats had airbags in the side bolsters, so I'm worried that's going to complicate things.
Thoughts??

987 seats do have airbags, so the power plug will be different. Guess you could track down the appropriate wires to match the 986 and connect them to the 986 plug.
Are the rail dimensions & angles the same between 987 & 986?

I think so, the Brey-Krause floor adapters are the same for 986 and 987 (looks like 981 too)

They will bolt in without issue (have them in mine). You need to switch the seat belt receiver over and the harness plugs are different. Do a search and you can find details from others on the wiring. Biggest problem is if you go with later memory optioned seats and want to retain this feature.

'07 Cayman Seats in '01 Boxster?
Just finished discussing this on Pedro's Board. There is a DIY on Pelican, but it doesn't sound like anyone has figured out the wiring for the seat heaters or the memory.

As anyone made any progress in adapting a 987 or 997 seat to a 986?
In addition to the link I noted in the post above this one, there is a DIY on Pelican: Pelican Technical Article: Installing 997 Seats Into a 986 Boxster
However, I am still looking for instructions for keeping the seat heaters and perhaps the memory function.
