Ongoing CRAIGSLIST SCAM!!! Funny and sad, beware!

Long story short - I am shopping for a nice Boxster 986 and apart from the classifieds on this forum check eBay and Craigslist posts regularly. Here's a story about a Craigslist scammer who blatantly destroys our shy dreams of finding a top condition Boxster for a very very good price. I'll be posting all our email correspondence one chapter at a time as the story develops. Hopefully in the end it will be a good laugh and a great read for you all!

Chapter 1. "The Craigslist Post"

So yesterday night I find this CL post and obviously loose my sleep: the Boxster is awesome! The deal looks almost too good to be true)) I am hooked... Replying right away, hopefully it's still available. Looking at the photo again and again, almost hear the sound of it. Falling in love with a beautiful Boxster is SO easy... And I almost did.

Chapter 2. "My Uncle Mark"

I am sending an email and waiting for reply with my fingers crossed - hope it's not gone yet... What a deal! Looking for a good Porsche mechanic, mumbling "I'll spend that money for the PPI, it's already a "steal", it will be money worth spending". Comparing insurance quotes, working on a checklist of the first things that might need replacement or service, checking my inbox again and again... Here's what I get in about an hour from "Jason":

Hey, The uncle must live in Burlington Vermont because it's for sale there too!

Chapter 3. "The Boxster"

Hm?...Uncle?? But well, maybe it's true and Jason's uncle is an older guy with weak knees who's unfamiliar with Craigslist or internet in general. No, it's fine. Shooting him an email right away! Nothing to worry about!

...And then I receive a ton of stunning hi-res images of a gorgeous sweet Boxster... Try NOT melt!

I love to scam the scammer. I once replied to a CL ad where the scammer was using pictures of my Mercedes (which was not for sale), lifted them from a forum. It was a week of fun emails back and forth. I told him I wired him money, etc. good times while working nights.

I posted a couple of cars for sale on local CL last fall...real cars, real prices. I was amazed at the replies...willing to buy my car sight unseen, just need to ship it!

Also love the reply "What's the lowest you will take for your car" to which I reply "$1"...and I don't even get another reply!

Ask him for an addr in OMA and I'll take a look at it for you.

Haven't heard of the ebay angle. They always used to want you to send $$$ via Western Union.

Gotta love the fake ads. Palm trees and rock lawns in OMA? Right. The radio stn is in PHX, which fits the terrain in the pics. Wonder whose ad they ripped off?

I had someone once offer to fly a car from overseas to me. I asked about the title, he said he'd put it in the car. All this before I had to pay for it. Sure....

I "played" with a scammer awhile back that had the same eBay scam going. The eBay link they send you looks very very good. You would think you are putting your funds into an eBay escrow account. For fun I sent the link to eBay (spoof@ebay.com). They acknowledged that it was a fake. I have a real problem with thieves.

I hate thieves. It is a very good looking car they use so I imagine they get a lot or responses.
