Rims Coloring

I am getting a spare set of rims, 17" OEM Turbo Twists and wondering how they are colored and what process/paint works best for a color change?

What are the options for changing the color?

Powder coat?
PlastiDip?
Krylon Spray paint?
Polishing to mirror finish.

I have been considering two tone pattern of some sort where parts of the rim are left in the Silver tone and other areas are polished to mirror finish.

Any interesting ideas or pictures of colored rims.
Its my spare racing set that I will be coloring.

After looking at a bunch of Rim Pics I think the two tone color combos are best on a black car when straying away from silver or chrome.

Amber rims to match the headlights

Since I'll be needing wheel Center Caps I'll have to pull out the 3D modeling software and come up with cool 3D printed center caps as well and put my 3D printer to work again.
I added this 3D Printing project to the 3D Printing thread. http://986forum.com/forums/diy-project-guides/60146-3d-printed-boxster-parts-2.html

It really depends on your budget, and if you want the color to last. Powder coating would be the most robust but most expensive option. Painting them would be second best, but you have to avoid rim cleaner with painted rims, it's too strong and will damage the finish. Not sure about PlastiDip, but they do make plastic wheel paint that can be peeled off at a later date.

PlastiDip is an easy way to try out a new color. If you don't like it, peel it off and try a different color.
My intention with PlastiDip was to do my wheels and see if I liked the color. If I did, the plan was to have them powder coated.

That was 3 years ago. The PlastiDip still looks great, so I've never bothered to get them powder coated.

turbo twists look best in silver in my opinion but would love to see a semi-gloss/satin black set with red outer trim, I would stay from high polish or chrome as the only porsche that should ever wear crhome wheels is a 356 speedster (moon caps)

PlastiDip is your friend. Cheap, easy, removable. I just did my second set of racing wheels in gold just to see what they look like.

Once you like a color and want it to be permanent, I had my wheels professionally painted and finished. I chose paint over powder coating due to the high temperatures required for powder coating (didn't want to heat cycle the wheels).

.

I had to order the PlastiDip because couldn't find in stock the color I wanted.

I found in Amazon 4 cans of Vintage Gold for less than $30 with free shipping, but when I saw the estimated delivery date of 04/06 I cancel the order and went to another site that advertised "in stock for immediate shipment" and I paid $50 (including $12 shipping).

They indeed ship it next day, but to my surprise it comes from FL and according to UPS it will arrive by 04/08...

Lesson learned.. :-(

I did my 18" carrera in a black matte finish. They look tres chic. I wanted to add the red pinstripe around the edge but looking at the upkeep of introducing another color it would be easier to fix one color than introduce another color. In NC I had a fellow do the work for 150 for mending the wheels( removal of brushes) and painting them.
