Did you disconnect the battery when you did the work?

No I still had the battery connected. I left it on so that I can check whether the climate control unit was working.

One thing I forgot to mention was that the one I bought on ebay was a different color. Had a black casing and the one in my car is white. And mine seems like it is a Canadian version? The new one was not able to control the fans even though the display was indicating that it was on.

So what I did was I canibalized the two parts and replaced the screen from the new unit and connected it to my existing unit. That seemed to have fixed the climate control and everything was working.

I didn't pay attention to the guages at the time of installation. I only noticed that the instrument cluster was not working this morning
