Cluster LCD display - Replacement

Hello guys,
I have been messing around with a cluster I was trying to install and I ended up breaking the LCD screen, the one in the middle:

Anybody knows if I can find a replacement screen and swap or I have to buy another cluster?
Thanks in advance!

If you end up getting a new cluster and you want the mileage reset to you car's I can suggest using ODO-PRO.COM - Odo-Pro.com - The Digital Odometer Professionals. They charge $89 plus your shipping to them. I made a complete file with photos documenting my change to a 996 cluster and the mileage adjustment.

Yes, I could reprogram the VIN to get the radio working but the mileage is encrypted.
I guess I'll just copy the program from my old cluster to copy it to the new one.
I somehow damaged the LCD screen and am looking for a replacement one

You could also try contacting Qmulus (that is his screen name). He is a member here and see if he can help you. He does work on the 986/996 gauge clusters and can reset the mileage and possibly fix your problems.

He actually does this stuff for a living (German vehicle electronics).

Couldn't hurt to ask....

I got in touch with particlewave and he gave me some advice about cleaning the ribbon. I will try out tonight and post the results.

How did you damage the screen? You can replace all the LCD Screens easilly, Not 1 of them are soldered to the board. They are held in by metal clips. The Center one is really easy to remove. Unclip the 4 Metal Clips holding it in, pull the case its in off, and the whole thing comes apart.

I just replaced the 30 LED's behind the LCD Display as well as replace the light dissipating:troll: film behind the screen with one that says PORSCHE. Its all easy. You just need a Torx, T10 I believe.

I think I wrongly manipulated the ribbon and thus causing the damage.
Hopefully some cleaning will bring everything back to normal...

I pulled all of mine apart a couple times. Like completely out, their lil rubber "connector" n all. and put it all back together with no problems. If this rubberized connector is what your speaking of. All that can easilly be replaced. Maybe find someone with a wrecked car, something th ats been sitting and the cluster might be really dirty.

Well, no luck with cleaning

This is what I get when I turn the ignition on:

I think I have an issue with the screen itself (see broken corners on the picture):

Could this be the culprit?

I think I'll just go ahead and search for another cluster and fix this one...

So I bought another cluster from Woody, swapped the screens and now everything works fine
I still need to source a screen or a cheap cluster to fix the broken one though...
I found out the screens are manufactured by VDO but it looks like they don't sell them as spares
