How much to respray the front bumper?

Need some help. I want to have my front bumper resprayed, so I took it to a local paint and auto body shop that was recommended to me by my indie. I got a quote for $818!!! I told them that I would remove the bumper and bring it to them in order to reduce the labor fee on remove and reinstall. I also wanted them to fill in the license plate holes. Does this seem unreasonable? I thought it was too high.
How much did some of you pay to have yours done and are there any tips that you can offer me? Maybe a good shop here in Virginia Beach, VA.

I paid $458.xx to have a new primed bumper prepped and painted Arctic Silver. That was the high quote. Other places in my area were as low as $325.
An older bumper will need more prep time.

That is about double what it should be. I would have laughed in their faces.
A bumper repsray should be between $300-$500, under $300 friend price.

I removed the bumper and had them prep, respray, and clear coat my bumper. $280 and it was a very good paint match.

I'm in the same situation except I also need to have the hood and front bumpers sprayed. Daily high-traffic commutes have caused multiple stone chips. A local recommended body shop quoted me $1,600.00. Although everything in South Florida is more expensive, based on the earlier comments, I would assume that is too high? I will also look into applying the clear 3M protective film afterwards.

I figured 2.5hours prep labour at $100/hour plus materials $100 = $350 total

Gasoline is the equivalent of $3.80 per gallon

Just done a repair and respray of front bumper. Had to do the job the on car, so lots of masking, but eventually got to standard of finish matching overall car paint quality. Glad I don't have to pay myself for the time spent as this would have been the a very expensive repair. I certainly learnt a lot doing it plus the satisfaction of achieving a good job. Total cost of items needed was about 80 UK pounds
( I already had compressor, but bought a mini spray gun on Ebay).
