Fuse D7 (same as spoiler). My guess would be bad actuator. If it is a bad actuator, you'll have to use the emergency release cable (I believe it's behind the rear bumper cover).

My 01S had similar symptoms: 1) fob wouldn't open the trunk and 2 neither would the switch located to the right of the driver seat.

It turned out that the cable from the driver's side switch to the trunk locking mechanism in the rear had failed where the wire connects to the actuator. The solution was to: 1) open the trunk using the emergency release and 2) crimp on a new wire loop to reconnect the end of the old wire to the actuator.

Since the local indie did the work, it only charged for an hour's worth of labor. If it had to replace the part, the labor cost would have gone up and, of course, then there would be the cost of the part.

BTW: This was really easy to do because I had relocated the emergency release cable to the driver's side bumperette when I had the rear bumper cover off for some prior work. In now takes about 30 seconds to remove the bumperette and pull on the cable to open the trunk

Hope this helps

My 01S had the same problem last Autumn. Indy had to replace the actuator, not just reconnect the cable. What a pain.
